It would seem that the amount of Scouting XP you get for killing a creature and skinning it is directly related to your current combat level instead of your current abilities with Scout, as would have made sense in the new scope of the CU, or even the level of the creature killed, which would have made more sense but horribly exploitable in the CU.
This is problematic, because low-level characters (think levels 1, 3, 5 here) have a horrific time gaining Scouting XP.
On the flipside of this, someone who is very high level and wants to basically grind through Scout in a matter of minutes needs only to kill about ten high-level creatures and skin them.
Am I the only one seeing the problem here?

I know - this is a weird by-product of the level system. It is the same way with weapons. I have 0004 in marksman which means I have no rifle, no carbine, and no pistol skills. However, since I am MRanger/MCH I am level 80 and therefore get close to 5k rifle pistol or carbine xp per level 80 creature I kill, depending on what weapon I want to use. It is the same with any of the combat professions. So it is not only Scout that works this way.

My problem is, I guess, could this not be considered a rather significant problem for new players?

Very slow leveling could be a problem for new players, if their leveling of scout is way behind the rate they are leveling their weapons xp at. At my current level my scout xp is about 30% less than my weapons xp when I harvest. This is made up for mostly by the xp i get from maskscent and camo. However, I have not tried to level a new character since the CU went live (too busy respecing /blush).
I am seeing complaints about trap xp being too slow, but nothing so far about scout xp. Maybe some of our newer players can let us know how it is going for them post-CU? (Unless that is what you are doing

Well I was leveling some in scout recently as a CL1 entertainer and was getting pretty low XP. However, I still got lots of resources hunting on Dant with a large group. I would say the scouting XP I was getting was more in line with what it was like Pre-CU. On my MCH and on my MBH though I am raking in Scout XP hand over fist as a CL 80 character. Back on my entertainer I didnt find the progression too slow. It seems reasonable though and comparable to when I had worked on scout pre CU. So it seems a little insane for the higher level players, but oh well.

But higher level players have to be careful when leveling trapping. Trapping is still based on your trapping skill. If you are level 80, you'll only get trapping exp. for trapping creatures around lvl 80, but if you have very little trapping still, you will not be able to trap them which leaves you in a bit of a dilemma (if you want to level trapping that is
.).

I'm working on a new character that will be a Master CH/Master BE. Unfortunately, I can't work on my combat skills (CH) to raise my level before working on Scout XP. I don't really like the idea of grinding up a combat that I don't want or need- like Rifles, just so I can grind scout faster...then turn around and drop that combat.
So this leaves me pretty much standing outside Eisley punching kreetles and harvesting for around 70 xp per kreetle - then sitting down to regen my health bar between each kreetle. Or I can mask scent and run around on my bike. Or I can put down a basic camp, sit in it for half an hour and disband for about 350 xp.
Either way, it's going to take me at least amonth to get 4040 Scout. Not my idea of fun.

However, remember that combat skills level naturally as you kill and harvest. If you are killing creatures and getting weapons xp anyway, why not train? That way you will progress faster both because you will get higher amounts of scouut xp and because you can kill the creatures faster. It is supposed to be a natural progression. You will stop needing the scout xp long before you have to start dropping weapons skills for CH or BE skills.

Found a somewhat awkward way of getting great scout xp at low levels last night.
I was out tagging along with a guild group doing level 80 missions. I am only level 6 at this point, so I basically just stood back and harvested everything they killed. At level 6, I was still only getting about 250xp per harvest off the level 80 creatures.
Later, as the group began to break up - all the level 80 combat characters in the group disbanded, leaving the highest level in the group around 56...yet, we still had several of the level 80 missions to finish - which were now conning purple to us. Our level 56 guy was a Ranger, so we were able to finish off the lairs with some help from his traps, slowly killing off one at a time. However, now since our group level was 56 instead of 80, I was getting close to 2000 scout xp per harvest instead of the 250 xp I was getting before off the exact same creatures.

Aha!
That may just work as a workaround.
Or would it be considered an exploit? Hmm. Questions, questions.

level 56 killing level 80 gets a huge xp bonus. it's not an exploit.

I've been having the same problem attempting to get to ranger with my alt. I found that(with my currently cl 8 character)ifI stay grouped while the creature is killed then harvest I get 250 experience, but if I leave the group after the creature is killed and harvest I get full(3-5 thousand) experience. It's a bit tedious to have a friend keep reinviting you, but much faster than 250 a pop.

Kashyyk is a pretty good place to get some quick scout xp too, if you dont mind doing the whole mask scent on a bike thing. All those varactyls by the Rodian Hunters camp give 80-90 scout xp each for riding by with mask scent...and they reset pretty fast, so you can just keep looping around to get xp off the same creatures.
I got my 65k scout xp for Novice CH doing that for only about 2 hours. I just couldn't bring myself to keep killing low level creatures for 200 xp to get 65k worth.
