Yea I went and got MS2, then Im going to go into concealment 1.

its a good thing to have as you can stack MS1 and MS2, I get around 1300 MS2 bleed, and around 500 MS1 bleed. Usually if I get incapped by the creature, Hes bleeds before he can slay me.

Sniping tree is the most important rifleman tree. Every single shot matters for a rifleman so get your accuracy asap.

I got Sniping II before I got Concealment I and looking back I have to wonder if I did the right thing... Conceal Shot has like a 97% accuracy or so against blues and whites and a very high accuracy against yellow and red (got 100% on a red-con that took forever to kill)...

Conceal Shot takes a while to kill things, but it's SAFE. Before I got Conceal Shot I would use MaskScent (not, strictly speaking, a rifleman ability) and go prone and I could get in about three shots before I was forced into melee. I started with a MindShot2 bleed, then Headshots until I had to switch to Two-Hand Sword in melee...

The thing with a MindShot... is that it takes -time- for the bleed to work. And I get gnawed-on while that time is ticking by... of course you can try to use warning shot to keep the critter away from you, but I've had very poor success with this method. Either warning shot misses, hits but doesn't work, or it works and the critter runs to 132m and dies and I get no exp.

Of course, there are accuracy bonuses with the Sniping line, so if I JUST had Conceal I and Novice Rifleman... I might have missed more Conceal Shots. And since they hit random pools, that could mean a substantially more healthy foe charging me when I did miss a shot.

Sidenote: I rarely use Take Cover since (a) it often teleports me out of range, (b) I usually have to blow 800 action or so before the stupid thing will WORK, (c) it gives me, at best, one more shot and (d) after one shot at 64m, the mob will sometimes walk TWO meters away from me... so I have to get -out- of Cover and move anyway for the next shot. Once I get Sneak, and I can move while under cover, I may use it more often (presuming that I can actually get it to WORK more often, too).... it would also be helpful if they fix the teleporting bug. Oh, and the bug where you stand up from Take Cover and you suddenly "run" at a walking pace. That's a fun one.

I just started into the Rifle tree this week. I would also vote for Sniper first. Mindshots are an awesome thing. I find that Suppression fire works well with them. Here is how I was soloing Dewbackstoday:

(Sliced Laser rifle) Prone (60m) ... Mindshot2 ... Mindshot1.... About this time he charges...
Switch to Spraystick... Suppression fire... (he stops and looks at me) .... keep attacking and use suppression fire fairly often to keep him at bay.

I also have had very bad luck on Warning shot, that is why I use suppression shot. Suppression shot fails every now and then and I get incapped, but usually it works fine, and it also hits for damage.

Anyway, I am not a shot master, so listen to others experiences also...

I went with Concealment 1 first and that earned me enough xp to get Sniping1 & 2 and Countersniping 1.

Thats because with conceal shot you can solo a lot of creatures for 1000-3000 xp at a time. Sure it takes awhile, but it gets the job done.

If & when the creature/npc i'm using conceal shot notices me, they are usually down halfway on their HAM, which makes them easier to kill.

Wow Sorpaijen, another fan of conceal shot besides myself... I was beginnning to think I was the only one. As to the original question, diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks I suppose, and both are handy shots to have, but I figure it is easier to get mind shot having conceal shot than it is to get conceal shot having mind shot. Have fun, happy sniping.
