Thread: Considering a profession change

During my 1 year plus adventures with SWG I have been up most of the combat professions, except for Rifleman. My current setup is Master Swordsman, Master Pikeman, Master Brawler, TK Med 4 & Power 3. I'm contemplating dropping the Master Pikeman & Master Brawler (less necessary lines) and piking up Rifleman. Part of my reasoning is that I've found that I switch to Swords more often than not against most MoBs that are out there. How does Rifleman stand up as a secondary profession, keeping in mind that I'll be keeping MHS?

Most would say that Rifleman and Swordsman work well together. As both target the same pool. Keeping the TKA lines looks like a good idea too.

Most would say to lead off with some headshots from range. When the target closes switch to sword. Or you can use StrafeShot2 to weaken them in general as the close. If that doesn't finish them off. Your sword should.

when you say 'secondary profession', remember that submaster rifle isn't worth NEARLY as much as master.

mRifle/mSwords/TKA 4000/novice medic is entirely viable... you've got 17 skill points left, and the only real loss you suffer (besides the powers of master Brawler) is an overall melee/ranged def of +62/+87.

you can still add to THAT with some fencer skills, skilltapes, BioE mods (small, but effective), and such.

rifle and swordsman are damage OUTPUT professions (for now, the combat revamp will likely have every template scrambling for substitutions). rifle is best at range... when melee won't tear you to shreds... and swords can provide a tank-ish role (no match for master TKA/brawler) while still dealing massive damage.

if you MUST use rifle as a submaster profession, consider 0004 at the least (SPEED, and ranged dizzys can lead attacks, and complement swords attacks), and x104 if you have the points (accuracy always helps, and /concealshot can go a long way towards weakening an enemy otherwise too powerful to engage).

I realize that the Master Rifleman skill is an essential skill and that dabbling in Rifleman is not recommended. When I stated "secondary" I meant as a complement to Swords. The final template would be Master Swordsman, Master Rifleman, TK 4000, Brawler 4040

I have mentioned this in other threads, but it is appropriate here also: I am in the process of building a rifleman/swordsman from nothing on Test Center currently and it is a blast! I am enjoying it tremendously!
