Hi all! I have not played SWG for over a year (!) but would like to come back and check it out again. When I played, I had ALMOST a master rifleman on Ahazi. I loved the "premise" of the rifleman profession but the actual execution in the game left a lot to be deisired. I basically saw the profession as gimped. At the time (August 2003) the rifleman's DPS, accuracy at all ranges, and melee performance were inferior to other classes. I left the game because I got discouraged. Now I'm considering coming back and would like to resume playing the rifleman. My question is: How has the rifleman profession changed over the past year? HAs it finally been balanced with Pistoleer and BH? Any NEW stuff I should know about? new weapons? abilities? etc? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Tahnks!

The DXr6B Rifle has been added in your absence, it's got nice damage, medium armor piercing, good accuracy, good speed and acid damage
Riflemen is still very weak at melee distance on it's own, but at range I personally feel the profession is unmatched.

What about all the range/accuracy issues? Melee vulnerabilities? HAM costs? Teleporting? Speed caps? DPS vs. pistol? etc?

rifleman are the premier ranged profession in the game now. with mind damage dealing, the jawa ion for busting thru stun armor in pvp to insane damage in pve, rifleman have become the fotm profession.
strafe 2 is the most damaging special in the game, melee defense and such have been slightly beefed up. conceal shot works correctly now, no more melee damage penalty either.
on the down side, ham costs are high though as long as u eat the new chef foods such as brandy and ahrisa you wont have to worry about that. the rifles themselves are pricey as well but we do have acid and heat damage now.
you will find that being a rifleman now is nothing like it was early on. come back and enjoy being the damage dealer that rifleman was always meant to be, just dont let a melee guy get close to you in pvp or your toast, as that was also meant to be
p.s
accuracy has been improved, u wont miss much at master.
teleporting still happens but only when the mob is nearly dead, he will turn tail and run now.
dps if u get master marksman u get 95 rifle speed, u only need 97-98 to cap out at 1 shot per second. easy to obtain by getting rifle speed AA or CA's yes those do work now but are expensive.
hope this helps ya.

Nice info Kyreal, brough back alot of memories for me
I loved the old days no matter how much i hate mob warping. Being the underdog profession, the rare profession hehe, its was great fun.
Im realy happy that riflemen got the love it deserved and changed into the primary ranged profession (which imo it should be, riflemen are the grunts, the heavy blaster users). Im just hoping now an elite-elite profession of sniper can be branches off using master rifleman and master ranger.

Thanks, guys. i have decided to continue on with my rifleman. Now I have a few more questions:
1) When i played, I had a few good sliced E-11 rifles. T21's were not available on my server at the time. Yes, I am OLD SCHOOL!!!! What are the good rifles to use these days? What kind of stats should I look for? Mods? etc?
2) I had a full set of composite armor, which at the time was pretty damn good. What should I look for in a new set?
3) What are these uber buffs that people are talking about?
4) What's a psg/belt? I hear it used in reference to stun resistance.
I am coming back to the game as a 4443 rifleman but using weapons and armor from August 2003. What do I need to do to update my character?

Oh boy there is lots you need to do.
First things first.
1)Stop using the e11! Look for a good weaponsmith and try to get a T21, a jawa ion rifle, and a dxr6-b (these can be a little pricey.)
T21's usually range around the 400-410 damage mark with a speed of around 7.5-7.8
Jawas usually are around the 233 damage mark and 5.4-5.6 speed.
2) Armour. For pve you will generally look for composite armour that will be priced around 250 - 300k per set. the effectiveness will range around 58-64 base and 80 kinetic.
3) Master doctors can increase the stats of your health and action ( and their respective secondaires) which is pretty much neccesary to fight any high level creatures. Nowadays it is neccesary to put your armor on alot of times as well.
4) a psg (personal shield generator) is mostly used in pvp fights. This added protection will last only a few minutes due to its low condition, but it adds around 44% to many defences. (with the exception of acid, kinetic, blast, and something else that i cant remember.)
A belt is ... well a belt is a belt =D
Also... Look for food that benefits the mind. (ahrisa andbrandy together will allow you to use specials with no ham cost.)
Synthsteak will reduce the damage you take for a certain amount of attacks against you , but is not neccesary.
Canape is a dueling food... it cranks up your focus and willpower by about 700 each for 10 minutes.
Muon Gold (spice) for emergency situations when your mind gets low.
hope this helps.

doctor buffs---- enhance your ham bars to allow you to wear high end composite and limit the amount of damage taken by mobs, with NPC's doing high damage specials now, these are nice to have if you dont have a tank. avg price on these are 10-20k for 2000 plus buffs on all 6 stats for up to 3h30m.
Chef foods ---- back in the old days these didnt work well but they have since been revamped. rifleman foods are Vasarian brandy (buffs mind, focus and willpower on average of 400 at 40m), canape (buffs focus, will 650-750 for 10m), Ahrisa (buffs focus by 400 for 40m, which lowers ham costs, perfect for hunting) Synsteak reduces damage taken in battle decent food also. Thak reduces knockdown nearly completely, perfect against those melee guys that love to dizzy/kd. vercupti is expensive but gives you pretty much a doctors buff on health action up to 1000 for 10m or so, nice to have.
Weapons ---- T-21 for heavy hitting, DXR-6 for acid damage, real nice weapon against rancors etc, Jawa ion for pvp mainly, Laser rifle for lair busting, light on ham costs and still heavy hitter. avg price unsliced for rifles are 50k for t-21, lasers at 20k, the dxr at 100-200k and the jawa at 15k.
Armour ---- composite is the best ofc, can get it effective sliced up to 90 percent (gotta have buffs to wear) or get it encum sliced so u dont need buffs to wear base can be anywhere from 50-70 percent, most armor guys special protect kinetic so that will be 80 percent. a PSG is a shield gen that takes the place of a belt on your body, use these only in PVP with a 40 percent resist to stun for maximum protection.
Clothes---- i would suggesta BE tailor mask scent shirt which will usually have camo included on it. and maybe a medical mod for extra healing power.
Armor and clothing attachments ---- look for rifle accuracy while moving, speed, accuracy mods these all help immensely. these are highly expensive speed expect 1-2 mil per addition point.
get a lightweight backpack the mods are nice on it avg price is 100-300k
