After having played a range of different combat professions, I decided to try about every possible template on test. Just for grins I went ahead and did rifle/ranger... man it is so fun. Now true, with bh or pistoleer/smuggler I can walk in and fan shot stuff to death pretty darned fast, and with buffs take no damage.
But rifleman, omg... make up some camo kits, and blast to my hearts content; i was downing reds without them ever seeing me! The great part is it was actually fun, and even though it took a little longer, with practice I am sure I could make it just as quick, and get darn near TWICE THE MEAT!
Very good holdover profession since being a smuggler is useless right now as far as profits, and bh well forget it, no profits there. All the real profits seem to be in selling meat. I plan to save up a hefty stack of credits for JTL And ranger/rifle seems the fun and rewarding option.

Ranger is a great combo with rifleman. Another great combo is TK/Ranger. TK spin 2 is a very deadly tool, and while the camo kits aren't as useful, you can take a cave full of rancor in a very short time with TK and collect high amounts of meat with ranger.

Exactly! This is what the Rangers have been saying all along!
Rifleman/Ranger is my template, and I couldn't have more fun.
FYI, this template is the LEAST armor/buff dependent in the game -- which, hopefully, will be highly appealing after the CB.Yes, I'm drunk off brandy all the time like everyone else, but I only get buffed for high-end content like the 'Vette or the Geonosian Lab or something. Hell, I do solo-groups on Dathomir without armor/buffs -- and you're right: with some practice (and some +camo BE clothes) it can be done very efficently. Maybe not as fast as spamming strafe2, but I hold my own.
It's a blast. I hope you stay. After being a Ranger for awhile (and maybe an optimistic one, at that) I've found a nice use for all our skills, even if a lot of them are, honestly, broke/incomplete/useless due to buffs/armor/mounts. Yesterday I was fishing andhad to forage some bait, andI foraged five little onions that give +500 to mind for 60 seconds -- not too long, but enough in a pinch -- so now I've even found a use for FORAGE. Yes --freakin' FORAGE. Who knew I'd be using that one day? lol
It's really exciting though. I get all giddy just talking about it.
But one thing I have discussed over on the Ranger forum is that, after awhile, the Ranger/Rifleman skills kind of melt together; and at this point, I really don't think I could have any other template with rifleman in it. I would be hitting my /conceal hotkey and dropping prone all the time, then cursingmy lack ofRanger-abilities,lol.
So, I'm just saying thatif you stay too long, you might be converted forever.
Lot's of people don't believe me when I tell them that, but I know you can attest for the fact that there is A LOT of complimentary skills in this template. A-freakin'-lot.
And it's hard to get used to something else once you're gone.
Anyway, I'm just rambling now. I just love seeing threads like this. Have fun.

I agree that rifleman/ranger is a great combo for taking down creatures. Ive had it since launch and havnt changed. However the problem lies when ranger does little to increase a characters hunting effectivness.
For instance i can get off around 12 shots unagroed using mask scent and prone. Why would i need to spend the time creating a camo kit which breaks far too often, takes resources and doesnt protect half as well as it should to get 5-7 more shots?
Ranger doesnt give any viable defense bonuses or offense bonuses to taking down creatures. Our traps are worthless and do very little compared to scout traps, camps do not aid us in any regard, stealth is not implemented in regards to gcw when it should be, we cannot run faster than any other player, our harvest rates are only 30% (at master ranger) over that of a master scout. The list goes on but basically you can do thestealth shootingthing without taking ranger, and spend the pointson some defenses.
Ranger needs revamping big time, its still incomplete from launch and does very little in providing worth while bonuses to a player that can be achieved by getting scout.

Rifleman Ranger is the best man
But keep it to yourself! Can't have everyone running round chasing monkeys now can we!

Yeah, I know. Looking at the trapping line is a prime example, but I find the conceal camo holds about 10x better than /maskscent, and it works against npcs too.I also noticed that I get around about twice as fast because i go up hills much faster. Even though this is subtle with a swoop bike, it still adds up when you are travelling hilly areas like dath.
Ranger/rifle is where its at. They harvesta TONmore than my smuggler at scout 0000(about 1.5 - 2x as much it seems)Even if I have to buy another acct because I cant take it upon myself to get rid of my smuggler/pistol, ill do rifle/ranger on 2nd acct. Though Im not wholly decided on whether I add some ch in for kicks, or stay pure ranger.
