Thread: All Ranged Template (Melee? HAH!)
i am not saying it is not a good idea, you are just going to have to spend some time figuring out the strongest, absolute best parts of each profession, and figure out how to get around that silly weapon switch lag.
please let us know how it works for you

Hello guys,
I've come up with this template that I've surely not seen on my server. It's completely ranged:
Master Rifleman
Master Carbineer
Master Pistoleer
Novice Brawler
It should work pretty well if you ask me. I plan it will be awesome for PvE and PvP. Pistols give you some awesome mods for PvP. Carbineer has great state effects that it can lay, and Rifleman does all the damage. Granting I get ahold of a good mind DOT pistol, I should be able to fair very nicely in PvP. Lay my dots, lay some effects with the carbine and then drill away at their mind with Rifles till they are on their back. I'm hoping this will show everyone and their sister that melee isn't the only thing in this game. I've got novice brawler there for Intimidate. I was thinking of replacingNovice Brawler for Medic for PvE or when I'm fighting Fencers.
What do you think? I plan to add up all the mods I'll get from each profession, I'll update soon.
Thought about it. Tried it. Hated it. Maybe you'll have better luck. I used a Riflman/Carbineer template for a while on a TC, thinking that it may have been a "diamond in the rough", boy was I wrong.
Here's the problem: Your template, like Communism, looks good on paper, but has a funny way of not working out in reality. I'm not here to flame you, but rather, I'm just giving my info as a fellow Rifleman who tried something very similar to what you're working on. Here are the problems with it, the hypothetical as well as the runs I ran into while using my similar template.
1. Weapon-switch delay. In PvP, seconds count, and it takes a few seconds to switch guns out.
2. Secondary defenses don't stack. Block, Counter-attack, and Dodge will only operate when the corresponding weapon is equipped. Even with multi-mastery going on here, you will not be at cap in any one of these defenses, which is a great mistake, IMO.
3. Your reliance on "uber" weapons. You said it yourself, "Granting I get ahold of a good mind DOT pistol". We all want uber weapons, but the problem is that they're rare. Unless you have some type of "uber" pistol, what damage are you realistically going to pull off with Pistoleer or Carbineer?
4. No overlapping specials. Swordsman + Rifleman is an excellent combo because both professions target the mind. TKM + Rifleman is an excellent combo because they fill in each others gaps, and also, both can target the mind. Rifleman targets the Mind. Carbineer leans toward Action, and Pistoleer goes for Health. You can't focus your attacks on one pool, unless you plan on fighting with the Rifle all the time. Do you seriously think a Carbine or Pistol is going to eat through the H+A of a buffed and fully armored combatant? Unless they're a complete idiot, you're going to be scratching their paint, if that. The only viable damage dealer you have is the Rifleman, and neither of the other two can directly target/damage the mind...something to think about.
5. Landing your states. Carbineer has all these fancy state-defenses that sounds really good in theory. But seriously, try landing them on a defense stacker...it's easier said than done. Your template virtually REQUIRES you to inflict some type of a Knock-Down so that you can finish them off with a rifle. But what happens if you can't land that KD? Combat is an adaptive art. You have to have a back-up plan if your primary method of engagement fails to work (which it most likely will, I'm sorry to say). What's your back-up plan? Run? Kite? Die? If you can't think of something to do once the Carbineer part of your template fails...it's time to rethink your template.
There are more points for criticism, but I think I've said enough. Please, I'm not flaming, but merely speaking from experience. I tried a number of Ranged only templates on the TC, and not one of them worked as well as taking a Ranged template and pairing with a melee' one. I thought Rifleman and Carbineer would be a god-send...then I fought defense stackers and saw how worthless Carbineer really was against them. If you're deadset on Carbineer or Pistoleer, you may want to look to Bounty Hunter or Smuggler to beefeither of those up. By all means, let me know if you succeed with this template, because I'd love to hear about it. I'm merely attempting to brace you for what might be a really bad time.

I have a quick question, how did you get novice brawler if you havemaster rifleman, carbineer and pistoleer?? Doesn't those three professions leave you with 4 points left??
