The T21 Rifle is classified as a Light Repeater in Star Wars sources. It is the type of weapon you use in a short fire fight then have to cool down or change the barrel. That being said I think it is roughly ok the way it is. I would suggest lowering the armor piercing value and increasing the speed to reflect the fact that it is a machine gun. The insane ham costs are ok to reflect the fact that sniping with a machine gun is generaly quite difficult.

Now that we have established what the T21 is I suggest you refresh yourself with the skill tree for rifleman. It is ALL sniping and cover related. This is fine, I like snipers and I would enjoy playing one in swg. What the rifleman needs is another weapon to be an actual sniper rifle. Something with time in the 8-11 range, high max and min damage and low ham costs (lower than the T21). This rifle would have to have a damage persecond rate close to anything a bouty hunter or pistoleer would be able to use, so the damage would have to be high to make up for the slow fire rate. For every miss the damage per second will go significantly down, this will keep the rifle from being too powerful. It should have no or very little armor piercing value. What shreds armor has very little effect on human flesh and what causes gaping holes in people does almost nothing to even light armor.

So what do you rifleman think? Have the T21 as a heavy support weapon as it should be and get us a real sniper rifle, if that is what the Devs are so intent on our class doing?

It's an energy weapon. It has little recoil. The fact that it CAN be used as a machine gun means nothing. The fact that its barrel will MELT when it is USED as a machine gun suggests that it is generally not intended to be used as a machine gun. It's a multipurpose weapon. Can be a machine gun with burst or even full auto, can be a solid stream, can be a single shot, etc.

The point is we need a nice sniper rifle for the sniper class. With a low speed we fire less often than a pistoleer or carbiner. A single miss means a lot more to us than the other classes. Damage on a rifle should be very high to make up for the fact that it is slow. Do the math [(Max damage - Min damage)/2]/speed then change your numbers a bit. Note how it takes a LOT of damage change to get about the same damage per second you can get from a small change in speed. Rifles need to have a very high damage to keep up with pistols and carbines, let's also not forget comandos and bounty hunters.
