Kinda New to rifleman Profession this may be a naive question. With all the Old Nerfs and new nerfs(speed cap) Shouldn't the Dev's be looking at what is, IMOthe heart of our profession. Range's .....I mean wouldn't alot of our problems be solved If we could just Fire from say 120 away and be the only profession to be able to do so. Sure if we engage in close combat we die but thats not our intended arena ....we need to be away from enemy , sniping, concealed. Sure we have a 3 sec delay (although this it's self needs to be looked at, masters should be at the pinacle of profession not the same as every1 else) but If we had concealment and distances then we have a chance.....the enemy has a chance if they have thier wits and can find us and bring us into close combat........thus balance!!!.......this is just a thought, but at the moment arent we just using are rifles as slow pistols ?????? or pistols as fast rifles ????? there seems no desearnable difference!!!

As for the melee dmg minus!!! well its fine if it stay s in melee ! (5m) but beyond that it takes the p*** .....don't know about anyone else but when i have a fight down the Pub .... I would love to be able to hit someone from the other side of a parking lot or on the other side of a building !!!! maybe its a galaxy far far away thing!!!

I posted a very similar thing a few days ago. Apparently the maximum range for all weapons is 64m - this is a game engine issue and can not be resolved. A major error in the development of the game, granted, but there seems to be little that can be done about it. If this is indeed the case they should just scrap the sniping tree as it is futile trying to snipe from 64m.

Perhaps if range is limited the developers should move us more towards assault rifles rather than sniping weapons that we cant employ effectively.

So range issue is a In game Development issue that sucks big time .... As you say its pretty pointless having sniper rifles/skills if they fire the distance of pee shooter !!!!! Man I am so disappointed .... I really wanted to play a sniper!! rather than a gung ho run in blasting character !!!! Guess this profession is pretty much dead then! ?

Yep, range will never go above 64 meters. It's a friggin' law of SWG Nature.

if range cant go over 64m how come i can shoot reliably at 65 and occasionally at ranges up to 68? bug, sure.... but it can be done. likewise i've had mobs shoot me from 70+. if by game issue you mean exploitable... granted it would be exploitable.

120 is too much, 80 is balanced in my book. And can't turrets shoot from 80m away now? If they can't then just make rifles considered turrets...well high end rifles at least.

As has been pointed out in previous posts, sometimes the distances on the screen are not perfectly accurate. The tip of your rifle may be a couple of meters closer than your feet. Who knows? Just don't think that because you shot from 68 or even 70 one time you can do it all the time.

I think the 64m limit is how far mobs spawn or something like that.I totally agree that the range should atleast go out to 80m if not further. If it's a problem in the engine, ok then start work on fixing it or let's limit the ranges of other weapons. 64m is alittle more than 200 ft. I don't recall being able to shoot a pistol that far. Ever. As for the melee damage, I don't get it... I've seen my T21 in my hands... large piece of metal blocking me from an attacker.... ATLEAST give me the ability to slap the mob with my butt stock if it gets bad.

I'd find it interesting if they added a bayonet skill to us. It would require novicepikeman or one of those in order to be active. When you hit it the rifle has a blade pop out of it/get attached to it and you use it as a melee weapon. While in "bayonet" mode you can't fire the rifle like a normal gun or anything like that, but you loose the 2.5x modifier and have a somewhat strong pike. A pikeman should be able to defeat you like this barring you getting lucky and landing a few head hits. This would also allow us to grab another skill set to round off our character, like all the other marksmen have via BH. Just an idea that will never come to fruition though.

from my tests it seems to be related to the size of the mob.... and 65-68 is fairly common, not a "once" type of thing. try testing it.

also my gun isn't extending me 4 meters. it's a big puppy sure, but not 4 meters. distances being not quite accurate is possible i suppose, but then why give me an accuracy penalty past 64? if the game thinks i'm at 64m and prone i should be +0 to hit. or -- , not -30 to hit at 66. gun bonus maybe? but then why does it seem to be mob dependant...

imo this is not a game limitation....

You may be right. You made me recalla prevous thread discussing this where someone else said the same thing regarding larger MOBs.This could be like the "Austin, 12 miles" signs outside my city that are immediately followed half a mile farther by "Austin City Limits" signs. The 12 miles is usually to the MIDDLE of town or some such, even though the actual town extends for miles in each direction.

Maybe the distance is measured to the MOBs lower intestine? Which is where you end up if he warps to you.
