Thread: Though for a Riflemen Melee defense

My friend and I were discussing this earlier. Why not add the butt strike (hitting an enemy with the back of the rifle) or a Bayonet feature to the riflemen. This would give us that Melee defense that we are so lacking and make it a bit easier to survive when an enemy charges us.

This would be very nice, but that would defeat the purpose of being a rifleman, which is supposed to be the profession that is always at long range, and you should be able to kill them before they even get into melee range. I'm not saying we should not change rifleman, because I am a rifleman, and I agree with all of the issues here. We should wait until they fix a bunch of the bugs with the skills before we go adding new skills.

Although im a rifleman and i want major rifle changes, i don't think this is a good idea. I think that if they bump up the power of the rifleman (and/or range) They won't need to worry about melee defense.

Well, i understand your point. I was not saying that we should become a close range combat type character. I am just kinda Tired of haing no choice but to run scared when most things charge me when they notice me. Not to say I start running immediatley, but some things cover that distance very quickly and it would be nice to be able to hit a button and defend youself. Maybe make the butt strike result in stuns and give us the ability to get to a far enough spot to regain our ranged advantage.


That, and from what I have heard from the Bio-Engineer corispondent, the Dev's want new ideas right along with the bugs that are wrong, all in one report.

Yes DarkShot, we get to fight at the "long range" of 64m just like pistoleers and carbineers, but when the mob gets a bead or a trap misses they're on us just as quick. With all the max ranges the same I've never understood the melee dmg pentalty. It's not like I can fire from 100 or 128m and give myself that extra buffer to prevent melee combat. I would love to have a butt smash, if nothing else for my frustration during the times when +50 shots miss or "Your trap has failed to affect the target". "arrrrrghhh, ok /buttsmash1, take that dirty tortur." lol

The rifleman is long range and has a number of moves to use along with flurry shot to make distant targets fall flat on their ass, if you want to be effectively at close range then take pistols or melee professions to back it up.
