Thread: Countersniping branch valuable outside of PvP?

I'm pursuing a ranger/rifleman combination with an eye toward the "big game hunter" concept. Looking at the rifleman skill tree, it appears to me on first glance that the Countersniping branch is mostly skills that would be useful in PvP, which currently doesn't interest me very much.

Is this branch useful in PvE, especially against creatures? If it's not, are the bonuses granted by the Master box worth going after anyway?

Thanks for any input.

Actually, it's equally useless in both PvP and PvE.

Ya an area effect ranged stun is useless rofl. You can actually 1 shot incap multiple targets in pvpwith the AE stun if you have a big dmg rifle like a laser or t21.The stunalso makes them lose their next combat round which gives you more time to fire again. The posture raising attack can be nice in pvm when fighting ranged npcs. If you get in a covered position you can raise their position making them miss you more often. As for the block skill I havent ever blocked anything hehe. I also think mastering rifleman is worth it for the speed bonus alone. Your rate of fire will GREATLY increase as a master rifleman.

Countersniping 4 offers the best PVE (and pvp) attack available until Strafe shot 2 (master rifle). Strafe shot 2 is the Defining rifleman attack. Not headshot. Anyone who contradicts this is a fool.

I agree, I think all the AEs are better then Head Shot.

Can you suggest anything better to use than Headshot 3 as a main attack before Master Rifleman?

Oh, and which of our rifle attacks are AE's?

What exactly do Surprise, Stun, and Startle DO in combat?

Startle shot just does damage and stuns a target. Stun lowers some stats and makes the target lose the next round of combat.

My personal favorite rifle move is flurry shot. Combine it with some knowledge of npc ranged fighter AI and you'll soon be dropping stormtroopers for 3.5-4k a pop with little to no damage to you.
