Thread: Mindshot explanation please?
I have only just got the Expert Rifle skill and Mindshot1. Gleefully I raced out into the countryside, expecting to slaughter all and sundry, but Mindshot doesn't seem to be behaving. I know it's meant to be a bleed (or a DoT), but I don't see it.
When I try a Mindshot, I geta floating message over the mob, so far Legshot or Bodyshot, and the HAM pool does not move. In the combat channel the following message appears:
"You use Distracting Shot on a <mob name> and hit for XXX damage!"
XXX is about half my normal Expert Headshot2, generally a bit of 200. Around about 7 seconds later (about the same time as my next shot is due), the mob suddenly takes some mind damage, which looks to be about the same as the XXX mentioned in the message, but there is no message at this time.
I've tried typing /mindshot1 instead of using a function key, same results. I'd like to sit back and watch to see if there are any further damage ticks, but as soon as the mob takes that damage it attacks me, and I have no choice but to kill it ASAP.
Is this right? The Distracting Shot message is at best misleading. I had expected the mob would take some mind damage immediately, and I would see further damage (and messages) each round of bleed. Can someone tell me how long each tick of damage should take, and how many there are for Mindshot1? Am I bugged?
Thanks, Lue.
You fire Mindshot (one or two) and it either hits or misses.
You get the message. You fire distracting shor for xxx damage or you use mind-bender for xxx damage.
There is the little damage floaties in either red/blue/green above the targets head BUT they do not lose any damage.
The mind bleeding starts in the next "tick". Whatever damage you did is the damage done per tick. So a laser rifle can get a crappy bleed for 88 a tick, or can get lucky and get a 1400 bleed per tick.
Its a good idea to carry around various rifles and try out different techniques. If you are soloing big non-agro non-social monsters, you can try a Laser Rifle and Burst Run. If you have a tank (CH, droid, TKA) you can just use the DLT20a for its consistentdamage.
The mind damage does not count when factoring in experience because you are not doing the damage, the bleed is. So, you may actually lose a bit of EX when using mind bleeds couple with headshots...but the fight will most assuredly be shorter. It is all situational.
Thats basically it. Mind-shot is ALWAYS an instakill in PvP...it just takes a while. First Aid needs to be applied four or five times, and by that time the target is incap. Bleeds are jus way to overpowering in PvP...also, its not fun getting a bleed on you far away from anyone..eheh. run, run incap....run run incap.
I have found that as a rifleman with mind skills hihg, I can out regen a mind bleed. Running seems to make regen way slower. So just plop down a camp and sit down if you get a mind shot by an NPC (pc is different matter).
So, to sum up...bah, going to bed.

I use this to Multi-Kite LeviaSqualls.
I have Mindshot 1 and 2. I have set a macro that will fire each after the other. What I do is use it on one and all the others will follow. After it has both struck I hit it with a Headshot. Then While Running Target the next Squall and do the same thing.
Keep an eye on them and make sure they are allstill bleeding. You might need to do a few additional Head shots if one is bleeding slower than the others.
After a while they will all die at about the same time and then if you have 5 on you BAM... There is an easy 6500 experience. Higher if you have a droid and group with it.
I made 30k experience in an hour using this method. Since by the time you have finished new creatures have spawned.
some mis-information there.... you do get xp for bleed damage. i've bled baz natches completely to death, and gotten the same xp as bleeding them a little and headshot-ing them to death. you *may* get more xp for no wounding at all, but i haven't verified.
also, i keep the combat window up and closely watch whatthe bleeds are. Larger bleeds will overwrite smaller ones (I don't believe smaller bleeds overwrite larger). Since I use a laser rifle (sliced), I have a pretty large range of bleed potential. Sometimes Mindshot 2 will bleed for 200, sometimes for 800. So, if i hit a target with mindshot 2 (called Mind-Bender in the combat tab) for a low number, i'll chuck another one at it until i get 700+.
Finally, Mindshot 1 and Mindshot 2 stack on each other. So, i do the same tactic with Mindshot 1 (distracting shot). In this manner, i've set 800pt mindshot2 and 500 pt mindshot 1 bleeds on Baz Nitches frequently (can sometimes get larger numbers, but those are good averages). that's 1300 mind pool bleed every cycle-- which chews through the baz's 10K HAM reasonably quickly.
the key here is, if you get a low number (i once got a mindshot 2 bleed of 121) you may not see the effects of the bleed right away. keep a close eye on your combat tab, and you'll know what you're doing to your target.
Scenario:
I /mindshot a creature/NPC, usually a red that can incap me in a heartbeat if it gets wind, maybe peg it with a /headshot or two for good measure then hall ass out of range while /warningshot'ing it as it attempts to approach. Often this is just enough to keep it at bay until I can /peace out or it loses interest on it's own.
However every so often /warningshot will send a creature off into the boonies (+150m) forcing me to double back and give chase lest I lose the target...
Problem:
When /mindshot kills a creature/NPC that is no longer a live target (ie that you are not in combat with either because it has lost interest or you have managed to peace out), even if it is within visual range, I get no XP for the kill, nor can I harvest.
Is this a bug or am I just SOL?
Has anyone else run into this issue?
I had the same trouble. I used Mindshot on an imperial warrant officer. I continued with a couple of headshots but had to haul because he was butchering me. I got away and before I could engage again, he died. No XP, no rebel faction points, unable to search AND the base just immediately spawned another officer. That mission was FUBAR.
I think in the future you will need to reinitiate combat before the target dies to get credit, or make the killshot yourself.
I've reported this as a bug, but I'm interested to know if I should really expect anything from it.
Is this a bug, or is this actually the way /mindshot (and all the bleeds for that matter, I wonder if it is really an isolated problem) are supposed to work?
