Thread: Additional Defense from Take Cover
The defense granted from being in cover is not adequate, I believe. The defense bonus should increase with our ability to take cover. In order for it to be useful, I think the combined bonuses for being prone and being under cover should be similar, if not greater then, the penalty to be hit while I am running around and shooting.
After comparing the number of times I seem to get hit while in cover as compared to while running around, with everything from meatlumps to rebels to nightsisters, I have to admit that the amount of defense granted by Take Cover seems to be almost neligible. I get missed far more often while I am running around then when I am prone and under cover. I wish I had kept numbers to show, but this more of a general reaction.
On the other side of the issue, I don't miss regardless of if I am standing, running, prone or whatever. Since range seems to be the most important factor in considering to hit, being standing and mobile makes it easier to maintain optimal range.
Every combat class in the game allows you to run around like a noodle and still hit with impunity. And, it is actually more desirable, I have found, to do so. I think a boost to the defense granted by take cover would be a great step in the right direction for the rifleman class.
While I am at it, a minor complaint, but I think rifle crawl speed needs to be boosted up a bit. I think it's fair to expect to actually notice a difference in the speed after having made master rifleman.
um ever notice the accuracy modifer by your enemy? you WILL miss alot more if your standing i notice this ALOT i mean duh your accuracy is worse....also take less dmg while prone. anyways the ideal distance on a T21 is 0 for some reason so even if im close i have like a -20 accuracy mod when im standing right next to a enemy. i find that odd hehe.

I guess I was being unclear about accuracy. I am well aware of that number that indicates the difficulty to hit. What I mean is that, no matter whether the number is +35 from being proneor -50 from running around, I consistently hit withmy rifle, even against the high level monsters. I can switch to a carbine or pistol and still hit high level stuff more often than not while running around, as long as I keep within the ideal range of the weapon. (which is very difficult to maintain whileprone, for obvious reasons.)
On another note, I don't believe that I've ever recieved less damage from a rangedattack for being prone, either.I have noticed a considerable increase in the damage from a melee attack though.
This thread is primarily concerned with the inadequate defense bonus supplied by take cover. It really doesn't help us at all.
