I'm Master CH/Master Medic/Rifleman. I've been Master CH/ Master medic since one month after release. Master CH sucks, trust me. Not worth your time to hit master in CH. Two lev 34 pets doing 300 average damage is not worth it. They are only good for distraction in PVP, and tanking in PVE. Master Medic is essential for me with MCH, no way I could live without it, nor could my pets, so this is pre-requisite for MCH now since nerfs. If you can't heal for at least 800-1000 a pop with a Stim-D it's not worth it, since it will take all day to heal two 9k ham pets.

If I could do it all over again I would go Master Doctor/Master Rifleman, and dabble in CH if I could afford it. I would also NOT choose Wookiee for my race.

If you want ultimate power, then Go BH or Commando with dabble in CH, and Imp for AT-ST. On our server we have these types, with two AT-ST, one stormtrooper, and at least one lev 34 CH pet, sometimes a droid thrown in as well. There is absolutely nothing that can win against this type of character unless they get ganged by a big group or are morons.

Actually, there's a very clear role for CHs in PvP: Killing riflemen. I've been one-shot by CH pets in PvP quite frequently, and they're often the only things that stop me from wiping out packed groups. I actually have low-level pistoleers/medic-types in my standard group looking out for pets that would rush me after I opened up, to pistol whip pets so they wouldn't take me out (pre-KD patch, of course). Only CHs have 'working' melee, so they're really the only things Riflemen have to fear at range.

Most every PVP battle I have been in my pets are only good for distraction. They most ALWAYS end up being knocked down, and they just lay there while I lay there as well. There are many ways to not only avoid the pets totally, but also knock them out of the fight right after their master goes.

Hence in my opinion they are only for distraction. GOOD pvp'ers take them out with ease, or avoid them totally.

Dumb pvp'ers, or ones who are new to it and have not worked out a strategy yet can be killed by anyone easily, including rifleman with no pets.

My pets are now used only for PVE, and Iusually only bring one lev 34-50 pet out since it means less to control, less hassle, and less healing once the fight is over.

Honestly, no need to take master CH, Hit 4/4/1/3 in CH if you like, but even that is a bit overkill.

P.S. Dunno if the Devs intentionally want only dabblers in CH, but they have certainly made that the most efficient use of the CH profession.

I have been one-shot by CH pets. They warp on the target if their pathing is blocked. Please explain how Riflemen are supposed to counter one-shot melee pets which will warp on the target if you're sitting behind a wall. My counter to the big CH pets in a large fight is to unequip my gun and take the hit and have my medic pistolwhip the pet so I can kill it without worrying about getting hit for 1k a pop. Meanwhile, the pet is countering the 500 DPS AE I could be dropping on my opponents for the duration it forces me to keep my rifle away.

You're right that KDs can (or could, pre-nerf) handle pets. Riflemen, alas, do not get KDs. A warping pet kills riflemen fairly easily.

Also, pets are/were the primary counter to KD. If the other guy takes time to fire at the pet, you just got a free shot. If they hit you, then at least the pet is making him pay for it. KDs were the main reason I ran around with faction pets out.

Can't be both masters at the same time, BH and Commando both take 217 skill points, leaving 33 points left over

Hey smart guy, this is the rifleman section not the BH/CH section, get out.

- As I see it, Sony has until July 31st 2004 to pull content, balance and most importantly "fun" out of a hat and into the game for me. I guess I can list "buying a non-refundable year's subscription" down as one of the dumbest decisions made in my life. Congradulations SoE, you took 200 bucks from me. -
