Thread: Thoughts on the 2.5x melee damage modifier, now that it looks like it's here to stay
Grand.
So, with this paradigm in mind, here's what I think.
1) If the justification is "Heavy Weapons and Rifles are big and bulky, so they get the penalty," then take the penalty OFF the Spraystick. The Spraystick is neither big nor bulky.
2) It is a complete slap in the face to have the 2.5x penalty active while the MOB warp bug is in force. If the devs cannot fix MOB warping, they need to remove the penalty entirely. I cannot count the number of times I've aggroed a swooper from 67m out while running through some trees, only to find him INSTANTLY on my ass laying a beatdown on me thanks to the MOB warp bug.
-I agree with removing it from the spray stick, the Commandos are trying to get the 2.5 removed from their launcher pistol so we should probly unite with them there and add the spray stick.
-As to warping MOB's I don't know if they will ever do anything about it.Hopefully with the added complants of commandos and some LLC using BH's the devs will address it.
I thought Holocron said it was 2.0 for commandos? I have gotten used to it by now, so it does not really bug me anymore. I just pick fights with mobs that shoot or use a petwhen fightingmelee mobs. Conceal shot is great for lone critters.
I still say make it positional. CH will still be uber, we miss enough standing or running the melee can close. Maybe to use a special we can be made to stop running (just not auto-fire). We are the only class that really HAS TO go prone anyway.
It's just dumb. Reduces my 850 points to 340 points... just can't last long with that. I wana be a master dammit... and I can't because of this.
At least my sword don't suck...
In a post from the Combat Designer, it was hinted at that the modifier is going to be reduced but not eliminated. From their statments, it appears that carbine has a lower level of the modifier as well, and that there is an additional penalty for being prone. What was proposed was reducing both, with rifle ending up where carbine is at currently, and the carbine penalty being reduced as well.
I've also suggested removing the penalty in PvE only until the warping creature problem is fixed. Everytime I get warped on I sent in a bug report and add that suggestion to the end of it. If creatures didn't warp I really wouldn't mind it nearly as much. But if I do everything right, go prone, set up at ideal, etc. Why am I suffering this horrible reoccuring problem where as soon as the target or his buddies aggros I have one standing on top of me beating on me. Nerf creature warping I say. Lets see 2.5X for having a rifle and 2X for being prone. I'm the luck winner of the 5X damage instant incap and possible DB club. I want my badge for that one.
Combat Dev mentioned lowering it to 2X. A bit better but I'd still rather having the frap'n warping issue fixed.
I t hink you meant doesn't make sense and yeah, I totally agree. Grab the butt and the barrel of your rifle and you have a somewhat rudimentary staff which you can certainly use to better effect at parrying than you'd have with a pistol. Anyone ever heard of a bayonet for a pistol?
I think the range penalty at close range as enough to simulate the fact you can't easily hit someone in close quarters with a rifle. If anything we should get a *bonus* at defending against at least double handed swords, polearms and the like. Pistols are useless forblocking in close quarters, but for attacking (i.e. aggressive defense)they are better suited, and that's represented by better close in to hit bonus. Not to mention they can fire while falling backwards off a cliff in a snowstorm and still hit their targets where us rifleman can be prone and aim carefully through a high precision laser sightedespresso making scopeand miss 4 times from 5.
as having been master rifle for a week now, and having just done a whole whack of PvP, in groups and in a pair - i gotta say that we should not bitch about it at all, except in the sense of warping mobs.
that's the only problem i have with it at master.
