Thread: Beware of Musician Buffs
I know I was on a few days ago saying how good these were but a word of warning.
Do Not wear any Armour when the Musician is playing for you
I have tried this twice and it appears that if you are wearing armour the buff does not work. What I had was 500 mind and wearing armour had encumberances on me after listining my Max values doubled but my actuals went down. I had a max of 1000 and my actual was 150. This is after I removed all my armour. After much agonising I was DB'd and then when I was re-cloned my stats were returned to pre buff levels.
I then did the same thing again without armour on and the buff stayed. I will say this though again when the buff is up
WWWWOOOOOOOOTTTTTTT!!!!!!!
I was on Dantoine after the Force Sensitive's (Guess why :smileywink
. I was in a group with 4 Riflemen. We put our pets oin them
. Then we placed bleeds and then spammed HS2. Well at the end the others were almost out and I was still full. Thats right my stats regenerated so fast that by the time i had to shoot again my mind had recovered.
Just keep in mind not to wear armour when being buffed.
How do they buff you? do you just sit there and watch/listen? or do they have to do lots of flourashes or what?

If a musician or Dancer selects you and then types /setperform you will receive a message saying that they are directing their performance to.
After about 8 mins you then stop listening. At this time your Willpower and focus will double.
This buff lasts for 2 hours.
This happens for all buffs and armor
If your buffed and wearing armor, then die your Stamina, constitution, or willpower will stay at 150 as if you are still incaped.
I see dancers a fair bit more frequently than musicians in my local cantina. Dancers buff the mind stat (pool) itself, while musicians buff the secondaries (willpower and focus). I believe that the stats are always doubled, the only thing that changes with the skill of the entertainer is the duration of the buff, but I could be wrong. Doubling your available mind pool is nice, but let me tell you, having your mind secondaries doubled makes you a force of destruction at master rifleman. I switched to a DLT20a as my general situation weapon because of the friendly mind costs. With doubled focus and willpower, I go back to my T21, and can spam strafe2 or headshot3 with only trace dents to the mind pool. All of a sudden, I have to worry about *health and action* costs, as those are now the only pools being affected.
Trust me, you *want* these buffs.
I'll second that. My current T21 has 97 mind cost so I've been using powerups to lower that. Tried out the musician buffs last night and switched right over to max/min powerups without really worrying about mind at all. Plus it speeds up the lair buring process as I can actually spam my highest damage specials without worrying about the drain.
Daishar
I've been over on the Dancer and Musician forums, so here is a little bit of clarification:
-- Master Dancers buff the primary mind pool only.
-- Master Musicians buff the two secondary mind pools (focus, willpower) only
-- There are TWO kinds of buffs:
Passive buffs: You must be GROUPED with the master M/D you are watching/listening to. These buffs take a little longer. I would watch for 20 mins to be sure. The longer you watch up to 20 mins, the longer the buff will last, sometimes in excess of 2 hours. They do NOT have to do a /setperform on you, and can buff multiple people in one group.
Active Buffs: This is a one-on-one thing. You must watch the Master M/D and they must target you like DeBrad said with a /setperform. 10 minutes should get you 2 hours of buffs. You must manually type in a /stopwatch or /stoplisten command before you will see the buffs.
YOU WILL NOT SEE THE BUFF RESULTS UNTIL YOU STOP WATCHING/LISTENING.
ALSO... I have tried getting buffs probably 12-15 times. SOMETIMES they just don't take, and I don't know why(I dont wear armor at all). I think having died and recloned recently may have something to do with preventing new buffs. Yesterday I sat thru two consecutive one on one active buff sessions with a master musician with perfect conditions (no interruptions, etc.) for 11+ mins each and got NO buffs.
Other times it works perfectly. DO NOT get mad at the dancers/musicians. My personal belief is that the failures are related to something with your character. One time I didn't get a buff, i logged out, rebooted, went straight back to the same person and tried again and it worked. Yesterday I did the exact same thing but this time it did not work even after a reboot. So there are some bugs in the system.

These buffs are very valueable to riflemen. PLEASE
OK, lets try this again....
Please Read: Some More Advice...
These buffs are very valueable to riflemen. PLEASE TIP the master M/Ds that provide them. Reading their forums, they get very upset with people who come in, take 10+ minutes of their time, then walk out without a Thank You or a tip. Most entertainers do not like to ask for money up front. Some of them have gotten so upset that they refuse to give buffs. Also, they will remember your name and pass it around if you don't tip. I think this is entirely fair. I always tip 2K, and if it doesn't take, too d*mn bad... you still took 10 mins of their time. If a buff does NOT take, I have not yet met a Master M/D who wouldnt try again for you.
How valueable are these buffs? I got HA buffs from a Master Doc, then Focus/Willpower buffs from a Master Musician and went hunting. I took out 5 Mountain Squill lairs and one Bocatt lair without getting incapped. I don't use pets.
Notice that the buffs to the focus/willpower (master musician) are much more valueable than the primary mind buff (dancer). With the secondary buffs, your Regen rate is so high that you don't really need a buff to your primary bar! It stays full, even at "normal" level.

Nice! I could see the primary stat buff coming in handy if there's a chance you might come across some PVP with another rifleman though....like those of us who are heading out to attack factional bases, etc. ![]()
To reiterate another point made in this thread, I don't get why more players don't tip the entertainers, either...doing easy no-risk missions solo I make well over 10k per hour...way more than that if I get a group and really try. 2k for a buff is cheap as dirt, if you ask me, and it's all the doctors are even charging to buff your HA up to 2900! Even if you payed the doctor 5k for the basic buff (they usually only charge 5 to buff every possible pool including secondaries), and gave another 2.5 each to a dancer and a musician to buff you primary and secondary mind stats, you'll still make well over twice what you paid before the buffs wear off.
I've had a doctor buff last 4 hours and it was still going when I logged out. And you can easily do 10k missions with these buffs on, so you can make back your investment on the first mission.
If you're one of those people who the devs were referring to when they said players were "not playing the game in an optimal manner" then it's time to correct that and go get yourself some crazy mad buffs! ![]()
