Thread: Stealth and Infiltration
The ONE thing that would really make riflemen 'complete' for me... not perfect, but -finished- at least.... would be if stealth actually WORKED.
If you Take Cover, Mask Scent (a scout ability, mind you, that I have to spend skill points -there- to get)..... or use Surprise Shot (from Cover) or Conceal Shot (no cover required)... in any of these situations, you're supposed to be undetectable until you MISS a shot or until some time has passed.
However, as it currently stands, the FIRST attack you make, everyone -around- your target instantly knows where you are and will rush you (if they're social).
This makes it impossible to take on social creatures like a sniper. You have to, instead, use other tactics to separate the group of targets as best you can. Which is tedious, rarely successful, and is totally NOT the way a sniper should have to operate.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the Ranger's camouflage skill line may become the only viable means of camouflage for us.... which is kind of disappointing. I'd think snipers would have -some- ability to conceal themselves. It's in our job description, after all.
I believe you're thinking of omniscience, not omnipotence. Although...considering the 2.5X damage multiplier and the WARP-TO-THE-PRONE-RIFLEMAN bug, it may very well seem like omnipotence.
Greetings Brothers. I, like you all, am a Rifleman. I have read many threads about our beloved profession and it's many inequities. One thing I have a problem with is this, it is stated by the developers that we can sneak with stealth and such, and in actuality we can't. This is phrase is obviously said for flavor or role-playing purposes. Also, I've noticed that one of the Carbineer's titles is "Infiltrator" and to me, this doesn't make any sense, because a carbineer is someone whose on the assault, they go for a straight fight, Infilitrating just simply does not fit with them.
I think, and Ihope I'm not alone, that perhaps with our Concealment skills (which currently yield pretty useless) we could have different abilities involving stealth. For instance, and yes, I know some of these have been mentioned before, perhaps there could be an ability that makes us disappear from radar. Or perhaps another ability makes impossible for us to be target by pressing tab. I think it would also be nice if we could use something like a ghilie suit that would give us bonuses to taking cover and said abilities. And perhaps it wouldn't have to be exculsive to us, perhaps it could be an elite profession involving scouting skills.
I truley beleive in the Rifleman Profession, and feel that even though it's discription, is partial untrue, that we can become what we set out to be, Snipers. I also don't think that these abilities would unbalance us at all, Pistoleers can obviously take us down easily with knockdown shot, but if they can't see us, it wont be as easy. Most PvP is inner-city, and thus some-what close quarters, so I think that us having a disadvantage there is reasonable. But out in the wilderness we should be feared, when now, to professions with knock down abilitiy we are viewed quite differently.
I know the developers are working hard as it is, I'm just commenting on what I think could be done to better our Profession.
One shot, one kill.
