Thread: Is teaching that much of a bother?

So I am out hunting, and Im about 30 minutes of work from being ready for sniping 2 and special abilities one so I search for rifleman to see if I can locate a teacher in the area. I find one and send him a tell and after a minute he agrees to teach me, then asks how I knew him, I told him I searched for rifleman. About 15 minutes later I searched again to check that he was still on, he didn't show up so I did a who (his name) and he was still their. It seems most people set themselves unsearchable and it makes locating teachers rather trying, is teaching that much of a bother for others? or is there some other reason to leave yourself unsearchable?

It's not so much a bother as the title sucks in my opinion. Whenever I play I use my master marksman title or dont have one, I just feel that they deserve a bit more respect than a novice level rifleman. I know how you feel too, I"m on Dantooine and have enough for sniper 1 and am **edit** near spec 1 and no one is on planet that can teach me. I dont know why I like getting app points, and since i have about 1000 of them I like helping people out for no reason too, but then again I also dont wield pets, exploit, or KD (if I could anyway) so I"m the vast minority, oh I"m also a star wars fanboy so that puts me even lower on the chain of groups

Having yourself able to be searchable is bad for pvp, because the other faction can just search to see how many rebels/imperials are in the area. It is also good to go unsearchable if you are rather popular with the other faction, and they like to hunt you down a lot. So it atleast for me isn't about not teaching people.

Here are some reasons why it might be hard to get rifleman training....

1: There are not that many rifleman in the game atm. If you were looking for pistol/bh training it would be far easier.

2: Some players are Arrogant and they make their character unsearchable because new players are beneath them (in their own eyes) and they don't want any tells from them. Personally I make my character searchable and train anyone for free ( even opposing faction members). It is'nt like me not teaching some rebel is gonna stop them from getting the skill anyways.

3: Alot of rifleman are hybrids, they might be posting the creatuire handler title and have rifleman skills at the same time for instance.

4: As someone else said some pvpers hide their char info from search so the opposing faction has less info about them.

5: Alot of Masters of elite proffessions use a "weaker title" to hide their true skills from the people they are pvping. I have seen plenty of expert bounty hunters use the novice entertainer title in pvp.

I am writting this from the point of view of my first charater. He was one of the first 2 or 3 master doctors on my server.

I spent about 100k on training. When I was teaching Medic skills (Marksman would be the equivlant here) I didnt mind teach people because most of those skills I didnt pay for. I did start tipping for 4th tier skills but only 500 credits or so.

Now I get Master Doctor and all the younger doctors start asking me for training. No problem I said! I knew I was one of the few that could train them.

Sometimes I even ran to where they were (usally in the med center) when I was out doing missions.

I would say out of the 70 or so people I trained (including up to Master Doctor) I got tipped 10 times. So then I started saying right out...if you want med skills I charge 1k per doctor lvl.

Well...after a while i just got feed up of the negative comments. Now I will no longer train unless they ask in an extremely nice way or two if I know them.

I spent 100k for my training .. The least they can do when I train them in 5-30k in abilities is tip me 10% of what a vendor would charge them.

Now when I am a rifleman and a CH on a new server... I ALWAYS tip for training. Its hard finding Rifleman trainers.

When I do find one I send a tell and ask him if he or she has X skill. I then ask them if they would be willing to teach me and that I will meet them.

When they say sure. I go ahead and /tip NAME bank 1000. Then I go to where they aer. I then tip 40 to 60 percent of what I would pay if I had to pay full price.

I save money...they get a tip... Most of the time they tell me ... put me on friends i will train you whenever you need it.

I just spent 13k on training because I couldn't find anyone to train me on Rifle speials I and Sniping II. Those are the first non novice skills I've had to pay for. If any one needs them I'll train for free.

Give a tell to Veidon on chilastra.

I've found most(not all) are helpfull when it comes to training skills. I xp'ed on Dath during the Great Baz Nitch rush of 03 an most of the TK there would train me if I went to them. It does get harder to find training once ya get higher tho just cause the folks that areMasters just dont stay in town as much. My last 3 TK skills I went ahead and bought because I couldnt find anyone to train. Was almost 30k but still at that level its only a few missions. I know on Radiant theres not too many Riflemen runnin around but thats prolly cause like me they are goin slowly waitin on t21s.

I will gladly train anyone that comes to me but I wont run across the planet for ya.

I only train on two conditions: you have to be imperial and you have to come to me.

I'm already maxed on apprentice points so I wouldn't hunt anyone down to teach them.

I payed for almost my whole training to Master Sharpshooter. I train Imperials for free, rebels not at all.

Why should I make them better (for free !?) at shooting me ?

Why not it's not like they're going to shoot you in the back, just the head and upper torso region

Again I dont see what the big deal charging people to train is. As long as they come to me, or shout it out in a town that I'm in I'll train you in everything you need for free, even if I had to pay for it...why? Because it's just cordial, true if you are out 100k just to get where you are and these guys are getting it for free is a bit of a pain but I've had to pay for skills before and I realized, hey I could have gotten it for free just would have had to wait a few more days...hey I do massive damage thanks to that screw the waiting.

I made master a little while ago and I had to pay for all but 2 of the rifle skills. I don't hold this against anyone though and will train them for free if they ask and come to me.

Although this has become less frequent because like others I've disabled the search feature... I do this for PvP so that I won't be harassed by my victems...
