Ok... so I'm killing some reptilian fliers on Dath (Avian meat is pretty solid right now) and in order to speed things along I decide to start using my AOEs. I fire once and see all the little green and red numbers. Fire again and my main target goes down. So I switch to the next one which is undamaged, no biggie missed that one I guess. Fire again. All these little green and red numbers and my target goes down. Switch to the third Flier... not damaged.

Kill it. Red and Green numbers everywhere... Fourth Target... NOT DAMAGED.

so I start thinkign it might be my hotkeys. I start typing out /Startleshot2 on the next wave. A Whole bunch of little green and red numbers. only my direct target is damaged. all the secondary targets (despite having numbers showing up over their ugly mugs) are undamaged.

Needless to say I relog. Relog again. Shut down the client. Relog again. NO CHANGE. I've watched the combat que. It's telling me I'm using the appropriate shots... but outside my immediate target takes damage.

Did I miss something?

Last patch borked AoE attacks somewhat. We let Randonb know and he was going to pass it on. At least until we get out own Correspondent.

I finally made Master Rifleman last night, and was playing around with StrafeShot2 on a load of Nightsisters...

I had noticed the same effect; damage numbers appearing over all nearby enemies, but the HAM bars only decreasing on the direct target...

However when they saw me first and started running to attack me, i noticed I took out a group of 3 in only a couple of shots... So perhaps the AOE attacks only work when enemies have noticed you? Guess that would sort of make it a fairer fight, than being able to whoop a load of NPC's / Creatures before they have a chance in hell...

Surely someone else has noticed this... either that or the AOE effect has it't random on and off moments

It's a known effect of AoE's, you will see damage numbers over the MOBs heads and lines in the combat log, BUT you will not actually do any damage unless the MOB is aggro-ing you.

Just want to check on this... like he said... are you certain they were targeting you?

The usual thing is to tap the lair and switch to what is comming and THEN SS2. When you tap the lair, note the ones that have suddenly been highlited, those have targeted you. It should be only those that the AoE works on.

I have yet to get an AoE, will soon tho and was thinking on getting an LE repair droid to do lairs. If they agro the droid/pet, will they still take damage from the AoE or do they have to be agroed directly on you? Will the lair also take damage if it's in the cone if your target is a creature?

Try strafe or flushing shot. I've been leveling w/ those and they've worked like a charm on both NPCs and creatures.

This is how its currently working... give or take. Sometimes everything in the cone doesn't take damage though.

My understanding, however, is that anything in the cone (aggroing you or not) should be taking damage. That is, afterall, the point of the Rifleman profession right ... sniping.
