Thread: So now Rifles need metal arms and root shots to be effective.

So what happened to "no more FOTM's?"

Lately the dominant PvP combo I've seen is the damage and range of rifleman combined with the deadly root of smuggler. I don't use this template and I am generally successful, but mostly in non-1on1 situations. Rifleman has found its way into the depths of FOTM ub3rness. I've loved rifleman since I got it nearly a year ago and suddenly I cant be a successful PvPerunless I have two metal arms and a root shot.

I really never complain, I hate resorting to complaining, I just want to know if there is anyone who feels the same way. Don't feel guily if your a rifles/smuggler either, I want oppinions. I definitely see a cyber-arm nerf in the near future if things keep up with the way they are going. Players shouldnt HAVE to get these just so they can hold thier own. It's as easy as finding someone without cyber arms, rooting them for 40 seconds and running out of thier range. Unbeatable.

I'm sure there are many more threads like this around, but I rarely visit this board. Just dropping my 2 cents.

Sadly.. you could also argue why be anything but a rifleman at all, when a rifleman essentially has this unbeatable ability over carbs and pistols.

You can argue the same about Jedi, but no one will listen because it ruins their template......

But any ways back to the point, if the Rifleman's ability to use cyber arms is nerfed, we will still recieve another nerf, becausethe statement "Rifles have more range then carbs and pistols"would still hold true.

The only way to avoid a nerf is to make Carbs and Pistols have a nieche (The weapons, not professions):

My answer:

1- Pistols, give them DOT's, not a special but a DOT on the weapon.

2- Carbs, remove all elemental damage from pistols and rifles and give carbs elemental damage. Not as much as a Heavy Weapon's, but enough to notice.

3- This allows rifles to have range and it's damage as it's nieche and avoids nerfs that will just make pistols or carbines overpowered.

Woot smuggler for FOTM, never thought I'd here the day. Personaly I'm starting to think along the lines of Concussion shot should be "fixed" to the paralysis. Then I'll really be dangerous

Don't worry people are already discovering counters to roots and the 80m range.

It's embarrassing, but I wear two cybernetic arms, I'm Master Rifles, and Master Smuggler. In PvP non-Jedi I'm very effective. I'm thinking thatstuff can be a little unfair on others.

No kidding!

I remember when pre-CU it seemed like only the Jedi and BH were dabbling in the field, now, well.

Ultimately though I will never wear the 2 cyber arms I have now even though it will give me the uber range - why? Because I've got a rocking Trandosian physique that cyber arms will only tarnish!

remember though many of those people who are packing rifles are not rifleman at all. Any profession can use most any weapon so a smuggler pistoleer can use a laser rifle fairly effectively (smuggler generic ranged mods). It really is not the templates at all and if you have not noticed... rifles miss much more often at close range (in fact so much I am getting mails about it and it is a major thread here in the forums.) I would definitely suggest that pistols, carbines and rifles all have their advantages. With spice stacking gone the SAC cost on rifles is high enough most of us can burn through our action pools fast vs pistols using the same special which can continue to fire long after we are burned out. They have the same basic dps so pistols in long combat are more effective then rifles.

as for arms... no one needs them. It is nice to have extra range but you can play and win without them. a riflewoman without them vs one with them has to consider the tactics of pistoleers and meleers to close the range is all.

There will ALWAYS be FOTM templates. No MMORPG has ever managed to get rid of them, and there's no chance SWG will be the first.

im a master riffles/master carbs and have both arms only so i could stay alive in group pvp. i was sick of having to try to get 65m and getting rooted at 75 and kd. so with the arms i can stay in the battle. if it's in a city rarely i get to the 80 range and almost always lose, only in wide open battles does it help and the root well soe put it in the game so ofcourse where gonna use it. pre-cu i never did anygood unless it was LARGE group fight which was rare. melee was stacking and it played more like some kind of lord of the rings game. so im happy its ranged cause other then jedi i've never seen any hand to hand fighting in star wars.

I like how people complain about rifles being fotm after only being one since a year ago.
I was a release rifleman that saw it hit the peak of FOTM status for a long time.

mRifle/mRanger

I only have the +5 arm, but I see no problems with them. I'll eventually dump this one and get the +10m arm (I refuse to wear two of them), but since I usually hunt in the wilderness I can only reach out 70m half the time anyhow - or else I get 'cannot see target'.

Nobody said that the pistoleers and carabineers couldn't get the ranged arms as well, so what do they really have to complain about? Melee types have some arms as well, so they can't complain.

I fail to see what the complaint is.
