SWG has major balancing issues. Rifle will not be any good for at least 3-4 months at the min.

Why you might ask? They have no clue on how to balance us with a weapon that has the highest damage. Simple really! Read between the lines, Open your eyes. Look at the trends and you will see the big picture.

Let me help you a little:

1) Rifleman had a huge T21. ie one shot kills or almost one shot kills.

2) 75% damage reduction to place to stop it.

3) Still SWG is nervous about us. The AR0 the t21

4) Then they came back with a half thought of nerf. -ie damage reduction and AR0 returned.

5) math didnt add up. Returned the AR3 and still nerfed damage.

6) They cant seem to balance knockdown and posture change

7) movement nerf.

8)...

Rifle will not be balance for a long long time.

In case you did not read the Test Center patch notes, let me point out a couple of things:

1). Knockdown has been seriously nerfed on Test Center, and this change will likely go live in a couple of weeks. Once a target has been knocked down, it cannot be knocked down again for30 seconds. This willput an end to knockdown spam. (Let me come out and say that even though I am a pistoleer and this nerf hurts me, I support it because it was badly needed.)

2). Pistoleer's ranged AOE knockdown (which the developers have indicated was a bug) has been removed as well. (If this was in fact a bug, as the name of the special in question seems to imply, then I support this change as well. Bugs should be fixed.). This essentially leaves Pistoleers withfour specials that work, and one of those three (Pistol Melee Defense 1) has been seriously nerfed by the knockdown changes. (the other three that work are Double Tap, Stopping Shot,and Fan Shot, though the much-talked-about stopping shot actually does less DPS than double tap.) All the other pistoleer specials are either useless (disarmshot 1 and disarmshot 2, which are worthless unless you're a griefer, and the pointblankshots) or broken (bodyshot3--which does less DPS than bodyshot2, a marksman special--and multitargetpistolshot which doesn't work at all.). So, if you seriously think that pistoleers are so overpowered, you should look again, as a great deal of our power has been taken away from us.

I'm not here to complain about it. I already indicated I support both changes. It'd be nice if the broken pistoleer specials were fixed, but there are other classes which are far more broken, so I can wait. But I am, quite frankly, sick and tired of people whining and moaning about how overpowered pistoleers are.

I also have a rifleman on a second account. I enjoy playing my rifleman every bit as much as I enjoy playing my pistoleer. It makes a very nice change of pace, because the class requires radically different tactics than pistoleer. There's a place for both classes in this game, and I think we'd all do better if we'd concentrate on enjoying what we have and making the most of it--and on getting the devs to fix the things that are broken, because there are broken things in every class I've played--and quit taking snipes at other classes just because we feel like the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

Because, as we should all know by now, it's not. It's just a different shade of green.

That's all I'm going to say.

If this change goes through every pistoleer will end up HAVING to go BH to do well in PvP. This is how I see the 3 Master Professions with the new change.

Rifleman>Carbineer>Pistoleer

I hope all of us are ready for the Nerf stick because its comming if the test server changes go live.

if you wanna go pistol go ahead, im not playing this game for the PvP aspect of it. if i wanted to be an PvPer i woulda played a different game, or went BH-CH-medic. as it is i have plenty of fun leading hunting parties and attacks on bases. maybe i dont do as much damage as my pistoleer friends per second, but im the only one that can kill most npcs in one shot.

Um no Saarin, you aren't good in a group. You attack mind, and everyone else attacks health. Yes, you can one-shot mobs... which makes no sense. Sure, you can mind shot white mobs, but who goes on group hunts for those? People go hunt Tusken Raiders or other, meaner red con mobs with 8000+ HP. If it's just a zerg swarm for XP it won't matter, but if the mob is tough enough that the group is threatened, your headshots will be useless.

Just thought Id let you know there nerfin pistol. There removing there knockdown(ranged), so unless your a smuggler, pistols dont have knockdown. Wich means the master pistoleer/Pistol BH people are now people who shoot eye shot crazy fast.

New elite spec= Master Pistoleer/Smuggler pistol line anything else.

Actually you dont even need master pistoleer, you can do pistol BH line/Pistol Smuggler line/and just about 2 lines of pistoleer.

None the less. This game is still catered towards the pistol.

Accuracy in relation to range in SWG:
Rifle: max |+++--------------------------------| min
Carbine: max |----+++++++++++++----| min
Pistol: max |+++++++++++++++++++| min

Yep, I'm beginning to think you're right. I watched a pistoleer spam stopping shot about 5 times in 6 seconds, for 1300-1800 damage each. I'm not sure what the HAM costs are on that, but I'm sure they're not any worse than Headshot3. It's pathetic... I'm running around with this big huge gun that does nothing but gets me mauled in melee and drains my mind endlessly;all this for the idea that I'd be doing more damage than other classes. HA!

Yeah, or I could just stick with Rifleman.

Why would I be so stupid? Because the rifleman/long range scheme is what I *want* to be. And while I agree that pistol users have some pretty distinct advantages over us *right now*, that doesn't change the fact that I don't want to be a pistoleer, I want to be a rifleman. Plus, when it comes right down to it, I think that rifleman is actually pretty sweet as it is if you play your cards right. I feel pretty comfortable soloing, I know what I can handle and what I cannot. And somehow , I feel like I can contribute quite a lot to a group, too. Yes, we have skills to specifically target the mind pool. These rule the roost when you solo. When you are with a group, use the best non-mind targetting shot you have. I am currently using flurry shot, not too far from flurry shot 2. You aren't going to hit health every time, but the majority of your shots will land to Health or Action, which are also getting hit by your pistoleers and carabiners. I do this in large groups frequently, and tend to get xp comparable to, sometimes even above, pistol and carbine users. I do not do PvP very much, although I have some. In those scenarios, I tend to get schooled in any 1 on 1 situation versus a non-rifleman. However, in group PvP, I think that we can bring quite a bit to the plate, especially with the knockdown changes that are coming.

Basically, if you want to re-spec your char to pistoleer, go right ahead. However, I would suggest that you put the current balance issues to the back of your head and ask yourself which combat profession really fits your style, instead of trying to frantically react to every balance change. But, to each his own.

BTW, when grouping with Pistoleers/Carbineers in PvEI just equip my spraystick. It fires as fast or faster than a rifle and as long as I stick to a good range (same as carbine) it lays enough hits on the target's HAMwith normal firing that I get a decent amount of exp.

The spraystick is the Rifleman pistol you can use to get experience when grouped with Pistoleers/Carbineers. Oh yeah, and it's also nice in PvP because you can actually use your special moves (though it does little damage and drains your mind pool FAST)

The above should say 'as fast or faster than a pistol'
