Thread: Muon Gold 101: How Muon Gold Works
I saw someone ask in another thread, so for the few of you who do NOT know much about spices, here is a description of how muon gold works...
-- Master smugglers and some vendors sell muon gold. It is a food... you eat it.
-- when you eat the muon gold, all 3 of your mind bars go up a large amount (+500?)
-- this means that not only do you have a large mind pool, but it regens so fast that
it's almost impossible to get it low!
-- Start shooting things ... use your T21 and fire lots of specials!!
-- this effect lasts for approx. 10 minutes
-- when the muon gold wears off, then you see a message that says "muon gold downer".
--and all 3 of your mind pools dip below their normal value!
-- max values suddenly shoot downto 1/2 of their normal value!
-- the 3 "actual" values are reduced by the full amt they grew originally (500)
-- Sometimesyou incap yourself because the reductions take one of your bars below zero!
-- The downer lasts for approx 3 minutes, then your mind bars return to their normal state.
-- If you're not incapped, you can function normally... you just have to be extra careful.
Example:
-- I am Twi'lek and my mind bars normal max are 1100 500 500.
-- I eat muon gold and i think they quickly become 1600 1000 1000.
-- lets say 10 minutes later, after some heaving shooting, and immediately before the downer,
their "actual/max" values are:
400/1600,1000/1000, 1000/1000 (i.e., my mind baris atabout 25% full)
--BOOM! muon downer hits
Main mind bar =(currentvalue - 500) / (normal_max/2) = -100 / 550 <---Incap!
focus = (current value - 500)/2 / normal_max/2 = 250 / 250
willpower = (current value - 500)/2 / normal_max/2 =250 / 250
-- I sit quietly for 3 minutes, and they return to maxof 1100/500/500.
Great post.
Do you think carrying around 2 crates of 25 muon means I have a spice problem? ![]()
i wish they would fix food to work correctly. there are some mind foods that I eat that work initially, then give me a large minus on willpower for some reason. the minus is usually about 400 and that puts my willpower at about 200. this wrecks my regen for a long time...i have seen it last for more than an hour.
I use Muon but that downer is a real downer. especially in PvP. BH's love to see a REALLY short mindbar. easy kill
Also, combining spice with any other stat modifier (buffs, food) tends to result in your stats not going back to their normal values after the spice downer wears off. I frequently get my focus and willpower stuck at 150 (the minimum the game allows when not on a spice downer).
You can fix it by loggin or getting DBed.
Good post WayneInAustin.
You are correct, it is +500 to each bar, and it is listed at 600s each, which is, of course, the10 minutes you mentioned. The only thing that I would add is that it is not just that your regen has been boosted because regen rateis only dependent on Willpower. Focus is also boosted. Focus affects mind costs. The higher your focus, the less mind poolyou lose when using special moves. Thus, not only is your mind regening much, much faster, special moves use far less mind to start with, meaning there is less damage to regen as well.
All of this means that you can, as you indicated, fire your T21 non-stop until the timers expires. It is so effective, in fact, that I have been known to remove my normal powerup on my T21, which does a reduction to mind costs, in order to add a min/max damage powerup when I have used Muon Gold while facing a particularly tough target.
That said, I just wish they would get rid of the withdrawal-like symptoms with the "you puke" messages and graphics. You get a reasonableperiod of severely reduced stats, and you can even incap yourself when coming down off of it, and that should be enough. The rest is unnecessary and gratuitous as it does not really serve any purpose. There is no downer period at all for doctor's buffs or normal food items. I can accept the reduced stats, but the rest we simply do not need in the game.Other than that, it is one of the most effective tools a Rifleman can use.
Seflyn....
I would say youhave a spice problem if....
-- You constantlyeatmuon gold.... and you're not going into combat!
-- You stand by the cantina door holding a sign that says "Will work for muon gold"
-- You sit on a crate of muon gold during the downer thinking "hurry... hurry..."
-- Your friend offers you a 750 max-damage, full-health,low HAM, pre-nerfT21 and
you say "No thanks,do you have any muon gold?".

Great post, answeredall the muon gold questions this novice rifleman had. Thank you.
I ran into one other issue, as well, that should be mentioned here. I normally do not wear armor because the encumbrances screw up willpower and focus, something you just do not want as a rifleman. But I was trying out a couple of pieces of composite the other day, and I came across a Rogue Fambaa, popped a Muon Gold, and started shooting with Concealshot. I notice my mind bar starting to drop after only a few shots. Normally, I can shoot concealshot till the muon gold wears off, and the only white on my HAM bars is, ironically, now on my health and action bars. It turned out, as I should have realized, it was because the armor encumbrances were giving me lower currents than the Muon Gold boosted maxes. No problem, I thought, I'll just remove the armor. But that did not solve the problem. The currents stayed at the same level they were with the armor on. So be aware that wearing armor will reduce the effectiveness of the Muon Gold, as you would suspect, but that the encumbrances do not go away after you take the armor off, at least not until after the Muon Gold completely wears off (including the downer).
