Thread: Found something out about AP. Probably why the devs dont see the problem.
I use the T21 when grinding and i alwasy notice the 2k+ dmg when i only hit for 1.5k in combat log.
Well i just saw a monster who was vulnerable to energy, so i thought i had an even easier kill. I shoot it and combat log say 898 dmg, damage over its head says 898. Shoot again, same result.
So, it looks like we have the same problem pistoleers have with the DX2. Ap isn't effecting on vulnerable creatures. But this is how its supposed to work, AP isnt supposed to do extra damage. But when its not vulnerable we do extra damage because of AP.
Maybe thats why the devs havnt noticed, because on certin mobs it works like its supposed to.
It's a well known bug. Volsted (sp?) did some testing and had info on when using a weapon the target resists is actually better than one it's vulnerable to because of this bug.
Basically if the target is vulnerable to a damage type the target counts as AR0 (no armor). The bug is that the AP of the weapon is also getting reduced to AP0. So your combat spam damage and the actual damage (floaty number) are always the same.
Been this way for months. Don't exepct it to change since they are redoing the combat system in the next couple months.
Actually I pointed this out some time ago.
If there is a vunerability or 0% resist on a PC for that kind of damage AR and AP is egnored, for good or ill. The concept behind this (I think) was that an armoured opponent would be vunerable to an AP0 weapon, and in this role it works. However, for an AP1+ weapon vs unarmoured opponent this is a detriment as the AP multiplier (that the devs say they took out but didn't) is bypassed.
