I wear a Compo chest, helm, and pants. The rest is Voritor-enhanced Bone armor. I can wear all of this with 400 H/A substats, and it makes a big difference. As a rifler, PvE should stay at range, meaning they're shooting at you. hence the need for energy resists. My Bone armor has about 30% energy resists, and light armor rating, soMOBs are doin 35% of the expected damage to the bone parts, and WAY less to my 70% Compo bits.

The Helm is encumbrance sliced, the pants and chest are effectiveness.

EDIT: Ubese armor can have >70% kinetic resists with very low encumbrance 350/300/400 ish on a good set. If you're in melee, where this, but I recommned Partial compo and fill in the rest with Voritor Bone armor. If you wanna be buffed at all times, get a suit of heavy composite. It WILL kill you on mind HAM's, unless you have a steady diet of Vasarian brandy and Canape.

Ok - in PvE a rifleman doesn't really need armor. This is ofcourse if you are soloing. If you play PvE in groups, you may need armor incase the creature aggros and runs up to you, but most of the time you want to solo because you get all the XP for yourself and it's just more efficient that way. If you use concealshot until master, you don't have to worry about taking any hits at all. Plus since rifle attacksuse themind pool, you don't want ANY armor taking up your secondary mind stats via encumberance, at all because you wantyour mind regeneration to be really fast. Anyway the rifle's range is long distance (60m) so your targets, assuming they are PvE creatures will be too far to attack or can't see you (conceal shot). I've mastered rifleman with no armor or doctor's buffs quick, it's very easy. Anyway if you still prefer to use armor, there are two really good quality types. (The rest are crap).

Composite - Ubese

Ubese is good for Kenetic resistance only, that is why so many TKAs wear it.

Composite can also have a kenetic layer crafted into it, a layer even higher then normal Ubese armor protection. Composite would be a good all purpose armor, as it resists every single damage type except stun usually.

My reccommendation is a set of %80 Kenetic Special Protection armor, and if you can find a good suit the secondary resists should be around %60-%70. Having this armor on (sliced ofcourse) would provide excellent protection against all creatures (hey they attack with kenetic, and if you get an %80 suit you'll be like a tank) but then the suit can be used for NPCs who shoot with weapons or PvP (since the suit would resist %60-%70 of most other damage.
