Thread: Rifle(wo)man with few skill points to spend...
Hi there,
I was wondering if you experienced riflemen could give me some tips.
If posture and knockdowns are getting timers I am considering to start using rifles instead of carbines.
I almost only solo... and if I've got very few points to spend on rifleman, which shots should I try to get? What is most important to get first? I know nothing at all about rifles so keep that in mind ![]()
Any tips appreciated ![]()

You solo PvP, or PvE?

If that was meant for me, PvE. I don't PvP at all ![]()
Concealshot works great in PvE.... has a really high accuracy rate (although I -do- have Sniper II also, which gives accuracy mods).
One thing to keep in mind, though: concealshot doesn't hide your attack from your target's FRIENDS. If your target has friends, and they are social, then they will charge you (but your target won't, unless he's a humanoid NPC, it seems).
But against single (or multiple, non-social) creature monsters or single humanoid NPCs (if you are behind them) you can pick away at ConcealShot until they die, or until you miss twice.... at which point they'll charge you. ConcealShot has a LONG re-use timer, so you won't be able to /warningshot away when your second miss happens: get up and run. ![]()
Still, if you really want to go rifle:
Sniping accuracy - you want either one box (for MS2) or four. Surprise shot is currently bugged, so it's useless right now, and even if it's fixed, it'd be difficult to use since you need cover. Sniper shot is extremely useful in PvP, especially large scale PvP, but if you're mostly concerned with PvE, one box is probably all you want here.
Concealment - Conceal shot is an easy, if slow, way to kill (non-BAFing) PvE mobs. If you PvP, conceal is pointless. If you PvE, one box might be worthwhile to give you more options.
Countersniping - This is a pretty good line, and all the shots do have their place, but the best stopping point is probably 3. Flushing2 is an AE stun effect, and does pretty good damage - not as much as strafe2, but in my experience flushing2 is the second most damaging AE we have. This is probably the best line to get if you can get to 3, and you don't have enough points to spread around.
Special abilities - The ability in this line is Flurry2, an AE dizzy, at box 3. It doesn't do a whole lot of damage, but it's an excellent support move. The line also provides a speed bonus, but it's almost imperceptible until you hit master.
Again, if you don't intend to master rifle, you're probably better off going with a different weapon. The difference is extremely pronounced between a master and anyone below that level.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I am changing from carbine, partly due to the coming 30 second timers on effect shots and carbine is all about effect shots. I had 9 boxes on the elite carbine profession before, 3 assault, 4 marksman, 2 support.
