I am looking for advice - what do rifelman do to avoid getting trashed close range by creatures in PvE? If the creature can outrun you then you are as good as dead it seems. Please advise me on the stay alive tactics for rifelmen. Once the creature charges you its all over it seems.

And yes I am new to rifelman.

Ranged weapon support in the marksman tree is a MUST.

Get a high damage weapon, mindshot1/2 the mob as initial attacks on your target. Anytime a mob rushesyou, swtich to a spraystick (or a fast pistol to get rid of the melee penatly) and fire warning shot and/or suppression fire. Keep spamming suppression fire or warning shot (i prefer suppression) until it takes effect, then move a safe distance away and fire headshots with a rifle.

If you're safely away, alternate between suppression fire and headshot.

This technique is what i currently use since I'm only 1/1/0/0 in Rifle and 4/4/0/4 in marksman. More skilled rifleman should have better techniques.

And don't be ashamed to use a pistol. No fool will wield a rifle at close range. That's the beauty of this game, its so easy to configure a character to your playstyle.
