Thread: Question about Armor Ratings and Target tracking

I was exploring with some friends today, some were pistol users, and a few were rifle users. Most were pistol however. After examining the enemies we were fighitng, I noticed that their armor was listed as being Light, and I was using a medium armor piercing weapoin, a Laser rifle. My pistol using friends however, were using FWG5s, and high-speed scout blasters. They have no armor piercing bonuses, yet they were averaging about the same damage as me, save mindshots, w hich actually dind't increase my damage much over theirs.

So I ask, is Armor Rating and Armor Piercing working? I've read somewhere that it's bugged but I honestly don't know what to believe.

Also, one of the main problems I have as a rifleman is getting the ideal distance from a target. My laser rifle has an ideal range of 60m, my Spraystick 30m (and it has weak dmg, and misses alot), my SGB2 is 35 meters.

How do most of you fire on your targets? I really prefer to use my laser rifle, unless things start to get out of control and i start dizzying, warning, etc..multiple mobs, but when I go prone say..55m from my target, and my friends for some reason or another move 20m closer to me, or 30m away, it affects my accurace a great deal. If it's a big mob, with lots of hp, I just adjust my distance..especially if it's done just once. But if they do it repeatedly it gets annoyng. I go prone, i stand, move...go prone....er, stand...kneel, go prone..moves again, stand ..move closer..move away, etc etc.

Does anyone have similar troubles?

Lastly, what would be the harm of increasing rifle ranges to 115m or so? I think that justifies us taking 2x - 3x damage, and it also gives us alot of free accuracy modified distance..say if the ideal range was a 30 to 40m span. Like at 64 to 100m is ideal, and anywhere before 64 and after 100, there's a neg bonus. Of course that's alot of space, but it's plenty of room, at least in my opinion, to pick a spot, sit there, and pick off targets without having to move all over the place.

Anyway thanks for reading.

AP does work as long as your not attacking anything with an armor of none. I am not sure why your damage was worse then theirs. As far as range I don't worry about ideal range so much as I keep the mob as far away from me as possible at all times. The range discussion has been a huge debate for a long time. The devs claim they can't set target aquisition over 64 meters so thats not gonna happen, some people are trying to get pistols and carbines ranges shortened but who knows if that will work.

Another note on laser rifle ideal range, as long as the mob is between about 44-60 meters you should have no problem hitting it, and always try to keep it under 60 not over 60.

The numbers in the combat window will be similar. The numbers over the monster, as in the actual damage dealt, will be different. Go out near your favorite town and 1-shot those puppy monsters around there. Look at the 700 damage in the combat window and the 1000 damage number over the monster. Armor piercing works, and it works well.

I don't worry about ideal range, as long as I'm past about 35m I don't miss. And if you have problems with monsters running, use your pet to your advantage. They actually peace and follow you when you call them, as long as they don't get hit again: good way to keep a monster from trying to keep perfect range against your pet. I only go prone when my wife is fighting something, she's TKA. The rest of the time I kneel, the minimum range on prone isn't cool with warping monsters

I think 80m max for rifles would be nice. But they'd need the change pistols and carbines too, 40 and 60m respectively. Most people don't have their graphics settings high enough to see a monster 80m away, so I see the dilemma the devs deal with.
