Im not even a Novice Rifleman yet, only Rifle Specialist at the moment. This is my new reroll character that I made 2 days ago..

It seems that with only a few shots my Laser Rifle completely destroys my mind bar. I have maximum mind, maximum willpower, and maximum focus.

Is there a different gun I should be using? Im planning to head out and kill Banthas today, but I don't want to get myself killed by this

Buy a decent DLT20a, get it damage sliced and stick a +30% max damage powerup on it.

what does maximum mind, focus, willpower mean?

you can buff those stats to reduce your HAM costs (Especially focus)

you can get HAM reducing weapon power-ups-there is one that will reduce all action costs by 15% or so and mind costs an addtional 10-15%

I use 2 rifles--a laser rifle maxed for speed/damage and a bowcaster maxed for effeciency (it uses about 25 mind per special instead of 50+ like my laser rifle does). i use the bowcaster on my specials and the laser rifle for over-charge or non-mind using attacks. not many smiths make guns tho maxed for effeciency, they usually go for damage.

also i buff my focus with spiced tea or my mind stat with aitha, both can be made by artisans with only 1 or 2 Dom Arts blocks.

Yea, i naivly bought a laser that had a mind cost at about 100. This was an awful waste of 20k, but at the time i was a definate n00b, so i thought that's just how lasers were. I was still able to sort of use it efficiently when i drank tea and then pumped myself with some serious spices to be able to do this. That's my only suggestion

K-18 rations to boost willpower will also cut down on the downtime afterwards, that and spiced teas I get from a friend are filling my pack before any long hunting trip, muon golds work as well if you can afford them, but the downtimes are a bit of an annoyance in my opinion.
