When that last headshot2 with the trusty T21 doesn't do the trick, and the MOB jumps you - what is the best rifle to switch to, to get you out alive? Assuming you only have Rifleman skill, but you have plenty of that.

the spray stick would be it. as far as I know it's they only rifle type weapon that is for close range, as any other rilfe weapons will suffer a major penalty at close range..also the spay stickis'nt that powerful so I would use it to supress and the run to your optimum distane then re-engage with your normal rifle..

When the MOB gets close, I whip out the Stick that Sprays(tm) and spam Warning Shot until one lands. As soon as I see the critter start to turn around, I spam Peace to try and keep the Stick that Sprays(tm) from firing again (and thus pissing the critter off and bringing him back on me).

Works more often than not.

Actually, the BEST point blank rifle is the original, Pre-Nerf, stat-screwed T-21. If I use /aim at point blank range, the chance-to-hit indicator goes up to 0. Of course, after that shot, I have a long 9.2 wait until I can do anything else. Heh.

With only rifle skills I'd still have to say scout blaster. Even if you're not certified you avoid the 2.5x damage if warning shot or suppression fail, the HAM costs are small you can fire warning shot non-stop till it moves away from you or you die or it dies from your mind DOTs.

Mobs that are green to me can melee for 300+ due to the 2.5x penalty so I unequip my rifle as soon as I KNOW the mob will be closing to melee, which is point blank.

I also use a scout blaster for point blank shots. You only need the second pistol skill for the cert and with a good pistol (unsliced spd 1.7) you can spam warning shot all day long, avoiding the melee dmg mod and dmg to your rifle. As soon as the mob is running, I switch back to my trusty rifle and headshot away. Rinse and repeat as necessary. I'm a ranger who usually solos and can easily take down high lvl mobs (if they travel alone) using this technique.

I would have to say scatter pistol is by FAR the best rifle. You can shoot people in the eye instead of the head which does more damage per second, more accurate, you don't take 2.5x melee damage, it blinds them, and best of all it drains action instead of mind which can be healed easily.
