Thread: Stick with rifleman -- We will be a very good pvp and a decent mob class eventually...

I see so many people giving up whatever profession they're in (especially Riflemen) and moving to BH because face it:

1. We can't solo big mob's like other classes (2.5x bleeping dmg modifier)

2. We can't PvP against virtually anyone but a novice....

Now I'm not sure what changes will take place over time here, but a carbineer/BH is the most powerful offensive weapon in the game right now. This won't last. Look at the track record for any other MMO, there is always a seemingly 'best-class' for a couple months. Especially at the beginning of its life when they are seeing a lot of unintended effects for various classes.

I remember when iksaar shamen had a nice run at the top of everquest, there weren't quite enough of them, and due to some balance change suddenely having a shamen in the group was so beneficial. It lasted for about a month or two then the shamen was back to being about as useful as any other class.

Riflemen will get their day, BH's will be over-nerfed then unnerfed to a relative balance. Riflemen will get a giant boost someday and the dev will realize what a mistake they made and we'll be nerfed to a nice balance again....relax...

If you're giving up a lot of skill points to go BH now, you're in trouble because by the time you master BH/Carbines or BH/CH or whatever, it won't be the uber-class anymore.

So True, So True

As much as we all hate it right now, we're in Beta4. Personally, I know it will all even out in the end. Each Class will have its unique properties, life will go on...

I agree that we will get better, but encouraging other's to stay? that I don't know about, I mean if these rifleman can't see that we will change and get better , thier only thinking on the surface level like most folks and I for one would rather the quitter's do thier job's and quit.

The rifleman profession will get better and ANYONE who's ever played a mmorpg know's that alot of things suck right out the gate, and the game that shipped will not be the same game a year later. If you don't have patience you shouldn't be playing this game, Gamer's are divided on one side we have the type that loves ease and accessability Ie: games that are easy as hell. and on the other side (type 2)we have those who like chalenges and gameplay that is locked out to alot of the other type because the type 2 gamer realizes that nothing really satisfying come quickly or easily.

is the burst/fullauto/flingshot combo still the end all solution for PvP, PvE in anarchy online?

you are correct, there is always the flavor of the month characters. there is also the perma nerf class. the one that never gets any lovin, or when they do its some rediculously useless item thats nearly impossible to get. the class that the devs always say: "they work as we intended them to. they are balanced."

lets face it, we are that class. its time to learn your UA or max out that rifleman tree so we can be like mike.

People were saying the same crap before they gutted the t21 and pretty much said "mind healing is coming."

From all of my experience with MMOGs (streatching back to text MUDs) this is 100% correct. This is a recuring cycle in these games. The question is "What is the time frame?" Sometimes that iteration loop is measured in years. One of the things I love the most about this game is that I can drop a spec I am unsatisfied with and try out a new one. Certainly it takes some time, but if you've ever had a 'max level' character you are probably all too familiar with the nothing-to-do-blues. If you feel that a certain spec is weak then drop it. If you feel one isgood go get it.

Why?

"But you need to be sure you’re actually listening to the right thing. Frankly, good hard data from the server database is worth a billion passionate board posts." -Raph Koster- (Stratics Talks With Raph Koster 1/22/03)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(sloppy edit: the use of the word 'you' does not refer to 'you specifically'. It is meant as a more generic term. I'm too lazy to replace 'you' with 'one' atm.Too lazy to move this either.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a game where you can vote with your feet without quitting the game entirely. Hanging on to a skill set that you feel is broken only skews that "good hard data from the server database" thereby giving the illusion that all is well.

You should definitely keep making those passionate posts. They help to illuminate that data. If it never gets fixed to your satisfaction, so what? You'll be too busy enjoying other aspects of the game to do more than cast a sympathetic gaze in it's directionand hope for the best. If you can't enjoy any other aspect of the game, ask yourself "Is it that I truely don't enjoy the rest of the game or is it that I'm bitter and disillusioned? Am I still pining for my lost, first love?" Lie to your friends if you want, but don't lie to yourself. (I've had to answer both of those question myself on occasion with varying answers)

If it does get fixed to your satisfaction, pick it back up.

To commit to a spec you are unhappy with with the intent of 'sticking it out' through an iteration cycle that could be measured in years is masochism. From my experience, the inability to just let it go is the largest contributer to interclass strife (eg. Well you guys were all for it when 'I' was getting nerfed. How does it feel? Lolololol) which causes a downward spiral that results in the boardsbecoming useless to the developers.

There are 3 valid reasons to keep a spec you are not satisfied with:

1. You are collecting data

2. You are in the process of having your issues addressed/ Changes have been announced

3. You like being a martyr

If an aspect of the game is not fun either you need to change or the game does. Your iteration loop is much faster.

I have found much more joy in my gaming since coming to these realizations.

Just my opinion for what it's worth.

thats well put noob.

the reason i havent dropped rifleman yet is do to the time and effort i have invested in it. if i could move that xp to pistoleer, id be there in a heartbeat.

i just dont like to give up. id rather find a way to make it work for me then quit. so far the only decent tactic we have is pray to land a mind bleed, and hope hes still down when we get outta the cloner. thats just not fun, so im gonna put rifleman on the back burner, and take up somethin else.

btw, i have straight up beaten a BH with my pistol specialist skills and an fwg5. and no i wasnt wearing any armor at the time, just my white gunmans cloak, my boxers, and my black casual shoes. so if you think im complaining about riflemen being weak cause im a newb, its not the case.
