Thread: Killing a couple birds with one stone
So I was over in the pistoleer forum, and the devs posted that pistoleer use is skyrocketing.
One of the major reasons cited why was that smugglers/BH's/pistoleers all use pistol, thus players can combine those skills to have great versatility and firepower for any situation. Pistoleer's using panic shot, BH's with pistoleer speed mods etc. Wheras if you take up rifleman and commando your skills don't really "stack" so to speak, a pistoleer with dirty fighting meshes very well. Basically what you have is that the pistoleer profession is really 1 and a half skill trees (pistoleer plus dirty fighting plus BH pistol line), not 1 like rifleman.
So I was thinking, why not do this with rifle? More to the point, what in god's name is anything on the Ranger tree good for anyway?
Whole trees of their profession are worthless, just ask one.
And what's the weapon most commonly used for hunting in the real world? The rifle!
So why not give the Rangers some rifle special attacks? This would make the rifle a more versatile weapon overall, and rifleman/ranger combos could be lethal if they give rangers the right kind of skills.
You wouldn't give them mind attacks, or AOE attacks. But how about a ranger equivalent to panic shot? Or a really powerful single target hit like crippling shot? How about an attack that targets health or action? Sort of a reverse eyeshot. That would be useful for group hunting where our attacks don't really contribute to the kill.
So in summary, I think it would make the rifle more useful, and thus rifleman more attractive, to give the ranger a skill line that is the rifle equivalent of dirty fighting. This would also serve to go a long way toward strengthening ranger and making it a worthwhile profession.
Im nearly master ranger now and also nearly master rifleman. I would love it if ranger became a worthwhile profession, it has (so far) been filled with disapointment.
I love the idea of mixing rifleman with ranger. I want to hunt, pitch a camp, live off the land as it were.
I want to be a sniper, go off into the wilderness in my chile (sp) suit or conceal camokit (that actuallly has a visual apearance change) blend in with the background, stalk my prey, track animals through the wilderness and take them down. Any bonuses would be greatly apreciated and welcomed by any scout/ranger/rifleman.
i totally agree
pistols have far to many options, compared to rifles...
we got left outside in the cold in the BH tree, and we are not found in commmando... ![]()

i dont like this idea because some people have spent all their skill points on other things other than ranger and it just wouldnt be fair if you had to go ranger just to be a good rifleman and have a way of actually stalking people
This wouldn't be nerfing current riflemen, it would just mean that the people who have points to sacrifice will have added versatility.
I'm not saying you would have to take up ranger to be a decent rifleman.
Nothing here would take anything away from the rifleman class as it stands now.
There are plenty of pistoleers without smuggling or BH skills. There would be lots of rifleman without ranger skills.
It's just that this would give the rifle more versatility and options. If you prefer your CH/Rifleman combo, this won't do anything to affect that.
It would be a great idea to involve some rifle abilities into ranger specifically creature related ones. I want to go hunting etc. The conceal ability is good that has just been added to the ranger but i want my sniper suit ![]()
I dont believe that ranger should have abilities included in the tiers that are available to non-rifle users. The whole ranger tier should be officially named hunter and be closely related to sniper (the new name for rifleman profession) and i know you can hunt with various weapons but the most used and most effective weapon is a rifle (well in rl in any case). I had my hopes so high that this new conseal camo kit ability would allowyou to make camo clothing to wear in the field. I was obviously wrong but am still hoping for it in the future. i want to make my character look the part and feel the part. Currently riflemen have little to identify themselves with their real life or imagined sw counterparts (headshot being the main ability and the visual size of the rifles).
The problem with this idea is simple though, Ranger is an extension of scout, not a combat class. Bounty HUnter for example, requires master marksman...therefore, it is a combat class and can have new marksman skills. Same with smuggler and commando, etc. If you add rifle skills to Ranger, you have to add Rifle 4 to the pre reqs, and then you are not really a Ranger anymore. Just because some of the abilities are like a hunter, does not mean that is what a Ranger is, You can't just specialize a class like that to make people with rifles happy...
