Thread: Sniping from rooftops.

I'm sure this has been posted before but I think that players(maybe just master rifleman)should be able to attack from balconies and such. Not necessarily from player houses(although, that would be cool too) but from those areas in cities where you can climb up onto a balcony, like the 3rd floor of a med center. I realize that this would give an enormous advantage to the person who was in the elevated position...but isn't that kinda the point in battle? Especially when you're a sniper? People on the ground would obviously be able to attack those on the balcony or rooftop but at a serious disadvantage. This would make those places a strategicobjective valuable for groups of people in PvP combat and add a new wrinkle to the action. The other thing is master rifleman should be able to attack from a farther distance...84 meters or something. It just makes sense that they would be able to do that using a rifle. I realize there is two ways to look at the combat in this game...what is "fair" and what is "realistic"...I tend to look towards the realistic side(as much as that can be in Star Wars). Maybe that's wrong. EACH profession should have something over the other that makes it worthwhile to whomever's gaming personality that fits. I realize this is just a game and it should be "fair" and "balanced" but at the same time I'm wondering if that's realistic...then you have to ask what the main purpose of these kinda games(MMORPG) should be. Anyway just my opinion. Also, there is much more important things to work out first...LIKE MAKING SOLID OBJECTS....SOLID. I can't remember one scene in Star Wars where someone shot someone else through a wall and around a corner. Come to think of it, physics being what they are in whatever galaxy you go to...you probably wouldn't see that...oh well.

The LOS of this game is so screwed up I can't even Stand it...... I think it's a deeper game physics question though and we are just going to have to live with it........

I would guess that it has more to do with simplistic game mechanics: This is just pure speculation, but my guess is that when you enter a house or structurea simple flag is set that says"player is inside" and then that flag is checked when you try to shoot something outside the house. To try to get specific could involve lots of changes...

"IF player is in a house AND target is outside BUT player is on a roof AND line of sight is ok THEN shot is allowed".

Doubt that will happen anytime soon.

*sigh* A good sniper does not snipe from a rooftop. You give your enemy a profile to target. Preferably get to a high floor and shoot out a window where you don't offer such an obvious target.

But I see your point, and I doubt it will happen any time soon. I'd love to take a seet on the 32nd floor of the Coronet Hyton Tower and snipe my enemies, but, oh wait, that'd be more than 64m... damm, there goes the entire notion of sniping.

Great point, we have "high-power", "long-range" weapons. But pistols and carbines can shoot just as far. Mean while, a CM can throw something farther then any ranged profession can shoot what's up with that? I'm not saying limit CM's because I refuse to cry nerf on any profession. But make our ranges longer then what they are.

It's not to snipe from Rooftops, it's to set up rooftop gaurds in your cities........ I mean come on would'nt that look cool? it would give defensive positions more importance.

I mean I was disappointed as hell when in my first defence against Reb's in Bestine that I could not Shoot them from the Balcony in the capitol building
