Thread: Is a melee profession needed if Master Rifleman?

Lets face it, rifleman need a melee profession. When you find a target you might get 3 shots in before they aggro and start running to you. What do you do? If you are a combat medic that still does not help since its another ranged combat profession. What professions do you have other than rifleman to solve this problem, or do you just run and kite?

At Master - go prone, dummy I can usually kill 28k HAM Nightsisters and stuff before they reach me


But, to really mix it up, throwing Fencer into the mix is a mean lil combo.


...and then there's CM.../slap CM/Riflemen

I found when I was just Master Rifleman that I ended up being at a disadvantage in caves and other close quarters. I picked up TKA at that point because I liked the notion of martial arts - then found out later that it's probably the combination that gives the highest final ranged and melee defence numbers (aside from multi-profession dabbling of course). Can't hurt you if they don't hit you


Gaming the system aside - I think it's very reasonable to pick up a melee class. Swordsman looks like a fun combo too.

master rifleman/master swordsman, fencer 3000, pistoleer 0040


you'll be an offensive power house plus near capped melee and ranged dand a lot of defense vs. x. or you could replace the fencer and pistoleer with medic or scout to make yourself more versitle.

Or change the 0040 Pistoleer to 0040 Medic. This way you can solo anything in the game if you have decent equipment. You'll miss some def vs. x but imo it's worth it to be able to heal yourself for 1000+ HAM every 5 seconds.

For PvE, most things are dead before they close the 64m to attack me. If its a group, I still have enough inherent accuracy to hit them despite a PB modifier of -80 on my T21.


For PvP, it depends. If it'sFencer who has CoB'd, I'll use my T21 with a PB modifier of 0. If it is anyone else, I'll use the Jawa. Either way, I'm still hitting, and hitting hard. I'll die sometimes, but they aren't walking away unscathed.

Or you can master doctor. With 80% composite on I'm a tank, I heal myself for 2K everytime. I need no melee (and range has little to no effect on my accuracy right now).

I agree.I stand my ground too. At master you have a +160 accuracy with your rifle. Even if they are at 0m and you have your worst modifier you will still have a large overall plus to your accuracy. Not to mention you will still be hitting extrememly hard. (not that you need to since you should have almost completely anhilated them before they got to you.)

Master Rifleman/Master Fencer/Pistoleer 1042 - and whatever you want with the spare points...

melee def = 134
ranged = 143

both nice and capped...

def vs dizzy +90
def vs KD +100
def vs blind +90
def vs stun +50
def vs posture change +100

dodge = 125 - capped

hit em with jawa then when you really cant kite em anymore, let the stun baton finish the job.

Not tried this, but looks pretty solid on paper... Any ideas? Input?

Single target headshot it, group of targets strafe2 them. Bascially nothing should ever get to you if your starting at 64m. You don't even have to go prone to hit. I can drop entire crackdown squads of stormtroopers in about 7 or 8 strafe2's. The ones that go TK never even get to me.


Then again it really depends on what type of armor your wearing, if you have stat and mind buffs. Unbuffed i can only shoot my T21, 11 times on strafe2 before i run out of health and action pool points. Mind is always fine because of food.


The only time i would ever like a melee class would be in PvP is when i'm trying to Kite 2 or more TK's or other melee classes. But thats why you have aFencer/doctor on your side.

Hmm Im thinking of taking master rifle/TK 4/3/0/4 Fencer 0/4/4/0 and Pike 0/0/4/0


I'm thinking the pike for the sweep 2 (area KD) with a nice mind poison lance.


The other melee for defence and meditate also up close attacks. pike also boosts Block up to +165 (cap 125) I get +75 dizzy, +90 KD dodge 90 (if using fencer) melee def 132 (cap 125) ranged def capped 125, Blind def +80 intim 20 stun 45.


also could use bigger pikes for AP but accracy will suffer


What do you guys think? am I wasting points here some where?

Forget Pikeman and get master fencer instead, use the remaing points in TKA.

what about a AP weapon I hear fencers weapons lack any good AP that can do good damage also does fencer have any good state effects?

seems all that i would gain is melee def and thats capped with old template also dodge would be a lot better but then im thinking will i use a fencer weapon to gain it, probably not if they can't get througharmour, I will be PVE a lot I think. I guess but lose some states like dizzy to 55 and KD to 70 (I hate KD /Dizzy)

is melee mitigation 3 a lot better that 2?
