im grinding rifleman out as we speak and in my opinion its not as good in pve as swordsman but effective in its own right , the 1 shot i use alot in pve is conceal shot with this shot mobs dont attack u as long as u dont miss more than a couple of times so get your accuracy first the other thing i dont really like is u cant really take on more than 1 enemy at a time u might be able too later in rifleman i dont know yet im only 3/1/0/4 hope this helps a little

that does help, but for what its worth, i was worthless in PvE with sword until 2/4/3/3. Getting the scythe was the turn around for me. But prior to this point, I couldn't do a think on dath, but once i got a scythe i was killing rhoa kwi's and leveled fast.

As it stands, I can go into the middle of any rancor mob and take them all out, can anyone comment on that for rifle? I don't have to take out rancors, and I really was looking to get my feet wet in PvP and I've read you guys fare well against night sisters (which are my favorite targets).

But another thought, how are you guys doing with Corvette? heavy sword is virtually worthless there I heard, but I've never been to prove/disprove that.

I am master rifleman and grinding Master Swordsman to go with Rifleman. I am told this is a good combo. I already see the difference of having melee mitigation with the damage of my rifle. Plus I read someone say that you can stack your sword and rifle bleeds. 1 of each. (not sure if that is true or not and yes I know bleeds in general dont stack, but I think this is different)

Heavy sword with Ranged mitigation 3, would do well in the Corvette I would think.

Also the other reason this combo appeals to me is to have access to ALL types of damage.

I havea friend of mine who was a long time PvE rifleman/CH. He left rifleman to pursue caribineer for a holo and his comment to me was along the lines of "I miss the power of rifles but I also regret that it's become such a PvP FOTM"

When he first got master rifleman he could drop grauls in a few seconds using just regular shots (and his CH pets to tank of course).

On another server I'm on I'm grinding upa combat prof with another friend who's also grinding out rifles. He's constantly having to stop attacking so I can get xp because his headshots with his T21 are so massive they suck up all the xp.

Hope that helps.

On a side note I don't think you're going to be able to go into a group of rancors and drop them instantly with ANYTHING other than swordsman IMO.

We fare well agianst the Nightsister Elder (cuz they only got uh 15% energy resist and we got our T21s)... but if we try the Spellweavers... we toast (cuz they got 100% energy... and we do no blast or kinetic)

So, the best NS killing combo would be Master Rifle + Master Swords

i mostly PvE and wanted to try rifleman, my favorite planet is dathomir and i've spent the last 4 weeks killing nightsisters. I'm keeping master doc and wanted to get someone's take on the rifleman profession that has come from master heavy sword.

I read the FAQ and i get the impression that rifle is more geared towards PvP, this is something i've never been good at, but have also dealt primarily in weapons that do kinetic damage.

My question is, if i master it and i don't likethe PvP aspect, will I be as good, or better on dathomir than my current master heavy sword?

sorry to ask this question, i'm sure its been answered a million times over, but for some reason the search engine on these boards don't like me and i get a billion results and a friend in game that is a rifleman complains about being weak and i'm not sure what to think. I do know that when I do PvP if the oponent is a rifleman and i'm his line of fire, i die. I'd like to turn that around...

I'm a Master Swordsman/Master Rifleman and I wouldn't give either up. And, yes indeed, I gave up master doc for this combo. I never miss my doctor skills, as there are numerous master docs in my city who will buff me at no charge, and I rarely get wounded let alone die. I guess what I am rambling about is that the two are a great combination. I don't know that I would give either one up for the other. They work in tandem. Most things can't get to me before I kill them with my rifle, and if they do I whip out my scythe or power hammer and it's dead; no BF and no wounds.

as tempting as that is, I am a solo player with limited time, so the time it would take to get a buff from friends that would buff for free, i've used up most of my play time, which staggers from a half hour to a couple hours daily. Plus I enjoy buffing players and was not looking for the "killer" template. But I do agree that what you have is truly an awsome player.

I was toying with the idea of a slow transoformation with master doc and rifle 4/0/0/4 and sword 0/0/0/3 just to keep my scythe but that's a combo that would ultimately leave me weaker than keeping one or the other.

I am curious, it seems that every profession has a group of NPC's and creatures that they just slaughter effortlessly. What are the things that rifleman just destroy that other combat classes don't kill as well?

rifleman gets speed mod 90 vs. sworsdman 75, so it's much faster but you won't be able to take hits from hard mobs like you could holding your power hammer

I'm currently a MHS, Master Brawler, and 3-2-3-3 Rifleman...To me, for now anyway group hunting with one or two others with your rifle is great. Sure, I can solo pretty much anything PVE in game whipping my powerhammer around to the tune of 5K + damage, but lending that "ranged" support is cool...Having one or two people tank for you to me, is critical in leveling...Hell, I got almost 3 skills alone yesterday leveling with this guy Qubrt on Dantooine...(Very cool guy to hunt w/ btw..) Plus, for those of you w/o flushing shot 2, get it immediately... This is to swordsman what your area attack 3 is...I was doing consistent 3000+ damage to multiple targets at once...That and head shot 3 when you need to take out a single target quickly...I know alot of people on here don't like thewhole "sniper" way of things, but I really dig it...If we ever get a longer range, it would be even better..

I have been a Master Rifleman/Master Swordsman/Master Brawler for months. I dearly love the combination. In PvE, Master Swordsman/Master Brawler alone is a killing machine. Add to that the +40 melee defense that Rifleman gives and it makes you even harder to kill while using your 2H weapons. Add to that the ability to kill at range and even do so a lot of times without ever being aggroed (/Concealshot), and you have one of the best offensive builds in the game.

However, I have grown weary of being forced into defense of local assets or those of our allies and being unable to get buffed or of being killed or forced to withdraw from battle because of poison and disease all because there were no Docs available. So I am in the process of dropping Swordsman and Brawler to piickup Master Doc. That puts me in the same quest as you, to become Master Rifleman/Master Doc and leaving Swordsman behind.

However, because I was a Rifleman as well as a Swordsman, I can give you an idea of the changes you will be looking at.

From a game play perspective, I have always said that switching to 2H weapons from my rifle during a fight is a lot like grabbing the barrel of my T21 and beating them to death with it. That is, the two professions play very similarly. Both professions have high damage area attacks (Area3 for Sword and Flushingshot2 or Strafeshot2 for Rifle). Both professions can dizzy a single target (Hit3 for Swords, Flurryshot1 for Rifle) or multiple targets (Area3and Flurryshot2, respectively). Both professions can attack mind (Headhits and Headshots, respectively) or do a mind bleed (Mindhit and Mindshot, respectively).

I would say that Rifle is better for PvP, in general, but that is not to say that it is not good in PvE. People often complain of being beaten out of kills on higher level creatures because of a Master Rifleman using Strafeshot2. And it is possible to kill stuff solo with Concealshot and walk away untouched.

However, while you will find the strategies are similar, you will have to remember that you are not a melee tank any more. I will have to switch from not caring if something gets in on me (because I could switch to 2H weapons) to staying at range and kiting, and so will you. However, you will further have tokeep fromrunning up and trying to attack at close range. Rifles do not have good close range accuracy, and melee fighters have a high enough to-hit bonus against rilfe wielders so as to make the +40 to melee defense pretty useless while yoy are holding a rifle.

So in summary, I think you will find that the techniques of using the two weapon classes will be very similar, you just have to keep in mind that you want to stay at range with rifle, and do what you can to avoid them geting close. This latter will be a 180 degree change from what you have been doing.
