Thread: Why is the so called flavor of the month rifle/Combat medic?

Every body is saying stuff about rifleman but its really cm that is causing all the problems. If you go to their boards you will read people say that they are not overpowered. At the moment they are. I dont want a nerf that will destroy them I just want something to protect myself with. Poison and disease kills groups at once and never misses. You can be standing 80m away behind a wall and still throw a poison and hit. As long as the person is targeted regardless of their dodge/defenses it will hit. The prepared player must be given a chance.

Albiet I don't pvp alot, but i don't see why people would add combat medic to rifleman since rifleman already does respectable damage.

Wouldn't the defense classes make more sense to stack?

why stack defenses, when you can poison someones mind, reduce it to nothing and finish with a headshot or 2? its pretty much all offense, and its a helluva offense at that.

Combat medic kills entire groups at once, is not counterable by anything unless doctors get area cure packs sometime, and even if you die the gay poison/disease keeps going.

PVP is terrible now because everyone's a goddamn combat medic.

Kinda depends on your PvP experiences really. If you find yourself fighting one on one most of the time, it ain't worth getting CM since as a master, I tend to kill off the opponents with several /headshot2. Poisons will tick after 10 seconds, my opponents rarely last that long, unless the buggers have TK and do KD on me.

But, if you find yourself often in large raids or battles with numerous opponents, it makes sense to lob an area mind poison, focus /headshot2 on one person, and by the time your done with him/her and turn to the next (provided you have mind pool left for your specials) the group will have already lost a nice chunk of their mind to the poison. Makes riflemen's job a little easier. Of course, my experience, if I lob an area poison, everyone shoots me down before my 4 seconddelay ends. Doh. So I have to hope I've stumbled on a group full of n00bs or people that just aren't very bright to focus on taking out the CM first.

Thx for the insight I forgot about the group stuff.

Got used to thinking that pvp was a few people hanging around the starport talking trash.

Line of sight is taken into consideration when you throw a poison. So if I'm behind a wall and your on the other side, I can't throw a poison or diseaseAT you. I can however, throw an area poison at one of your overt buddies that's on my side of the wall, and you will likely get poisoned if your close to him (plus or minus 20m) regardless if the wall is between you and the other guy I poisoned.

I agree the poison/disease combo is deadly and will screw over anyone that dies as a result of third incap by it. Armor degrades as well as other things. It's a cheap tactic. I only use poisons, unless I'm seeing a group of coverts exploiting group tefs somewhere. Then I have no qualms about using mind disease on them.

When you get poisoned from 65m or more from the CM, it's either because they used a pre-nerfed ranged poison (which sooner or later they'll completly use up) or they area poisoned someone 64m away, and your standing in the 20m range of the area effect. (64+20=84m).

The thing to keep in mind, never stay close together as a group, you'll get nailed everytime. If you spot a CM, kill him before anyone else.

Anyway, if they nerf CM, the nerf criers will find someone else that's next in line as overpowered. Who do you think that'll be? I'm thinking Rifleman. It's a never ending cycle. Just adapt to the game. I've learned to shrug off the nerf cries. I get poisoned and diseased as well, but I don't whine about it. I clone, and continue playing the game.

Rifleman and TKs have in my opinion the best chance at taking out a CM. They use their mind pools when they heal or poison. Target their mind with headshot and they'll go down quick enough. TK's can just do dizzy/knockdown and own em that way, bah.

I have to agree with everything said here. There are so many old rumors flying around about CM's that it still boggles me. CM/rifleman isn't the FOTM and never has been. TK/doc is! I am a CM/rifleman but I'm a CM first. My poisons will do lots of damage over time but unless they're packing a stun layed heavy heavy to mind composite helmet I'll have incapped and db'd someone before my poison ticks a second time. You'll never get hit with a disease unless a) its the very first thing you're hit with or b) there's a group of people fighting and the cm can get lost in the crowd. Dont forget that at master level I still dont have any melee or ranged defenses so if I want to gain any they come strictly from the ranged combat profession I have to take up (not many points for anything else).

This poster is just crying because his UNHEALABLE blue bar got smacked down to nothing. We as rifleman already excel at this! Just pray that armorsmiths stay lazy and dont bother to try and make really really nice stun layered helms.

Screw FTOM's, the only reason people call them that is because nerf criers keep getting everything nerfed. If people would just shut up and stop crying this game would be much better. Once the "FTOM" get's nerfed, the nerf criers are just going to move on to the next profession. On another post the point was brought up that it is now possible to live for as long as your buffs hold up if you have good enough armor. This is true. I was on a raid with 5 of my fellow rebels yesterday. After holding the base for a good hour or 2 about 40 Imps showed up and we were able to last for a long time against them. Not one of my HAM bars ever showed and white. The only reason I finally died was because a CM's disease finally whore me down. I'm not a Cm, but I'm actually about happy about this, if it wasn't for him the 6 of us would have been able to hold of the 40 of them indefinitly. Regardless of our skills the 6 of us should never be able to hold off that many attackers at once.

Simple, there is no defense against being poisoned or diseased. It can be dealt with, AFTER you are affected, but there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

Here's the real reasons:

1) The Jawa Rifle slaughters the n00b PVP'er that does not realize that 3 month old composite suit is worthless now because it has no Stun protection like all composite has now.

2) CM is the only way to get past the Robocop l337 Protect against everything armor.

-But the Real FOTM is doctor, can totally counter CM and can out live everybody in PVP.

CM's are like nukes. You have them just incase you need them, but as soon as you start using yours the other guys start using theirs and everything goes to hell-PyschoticChipmunk -The First line of the Riflenomican.

Rifleman and CMs need a nerf... Rifleman should not be able to shoot the fastest and dealthe mostamount of damage using a cone shot. Its just silly,, hence all the rifleman poping up. And CMs need a nerf their poisons are too strong for an area attack, but currently the only good defense on rifleman. I hope they fix both problems soon, combat is getting to be very predictable.

SOE. consider bringing back tefs, city warn, perma-death and/or skill loss, they were not bad concepts they just needed some tweaking.
