The official word on Block:
Block is only supposed to stop 50% of the damage received. Therefore, that aspect of Block is working correctly. *However* they do believe block is unbalanced to the likes of dodge, so will be taking a look at it (either durring the combat balance or after) to make sure it's balanced.
Because of this I haven't really felt a need to presstheissue now that they've already said they agree with us and will be fixing.Right now Block is just a waiting game.

yeah I saw it, but not sure if it's really good news or not. For rifleman the fact that block isn't thatgood isn't that big of a deal because we do have awesome offensive power. Unfortunately, for Pikemen, who would like to be considered a crowd control class, block taking 50% of the damage is not in line with dodge or counterattack and puts us at a severe disadvantage. I'm not sure what they can do to actually balance them out, unless they just make block occur much more frequently and make dodge/counterattack occur much less frequently so that the damage taken averages out between the 3. Or if they upped the damage of pikemen so they are the "riflemen" of melee maybe it would be ok.
For all the things that they say they are going to address in the Combat Balance, it sounds like it is going to be a huge patch.....or a huge disappointment. ![]()
Its Still a load of B.S. from the devs. We have never had our defense mod working properly, yet they keep fixing the other professions. I think this combat revamp will tell the tale of whether or not they are just trying to tide people over until the space expansion.

well, block does work properly, it just so happens that working properly means that it allows 50% of the damage to come through. And I haven't really seen them fix all of the other professions, in fact I would say that Rifle's received probably the most love so far in upgrades than the other combat professions, with the possible exception of TKA and Commando briefly(when they upped all of the damage for commando weapons).

Yep, that's correct. But, I'll be honest, it isn't all that helpful, although more helpful for a rifleman to have some pikeman block than for a pikeman to have a rifleman's block, just because pikeman already gets like +110 or something to block, so the extra +15 isn't all that useful.
I'm interested to see what they will do to fix block though, although my guess is nothing since they consider it working. At the very least because of it's obvious disadvantages I hope they make it occur more often than dodge/counterattack, and by when I say by more often I mean that it should occur 2x as often as dodge/counterattack in order for them to be balanced. Unless of course they balance it off in by giving rifles/pike some other advantage to offset the block disadvantage.
Xaverri, I suggest you check out another post in the Pikeman boards called "Melee Defensive Calculations" or something like that, it was written by Antares_Kauri. If you can't find it let me know and I'll send you a link. It shows why pikeman are by and large the worst tanking class because of low toughness and block.
I just recently Mastered Pike as well and I must say you do seem to Block a heck of a lot more frequently under the effects of COB than you do without. I believe it's the same deal with Dodge and Counterattack though. I did read that Post from Antares on the Melee Defensive stuff, a great read and well worth looking at if as a Rifleman you would like to see how Block compares to the Pistoleers Dodge and Carbineers Counterattack.
I think I remember reading somewhere that the +125 Caps were only a temporary measure and that the actual Combat tables would be looked at in the Combat Balance where the Caps would be removed. So that extra Block Modifier from Pikeman may actually make a huge difference after the C.B.

Problem is the toughness doesn't really balance it out since we have the lowest toughness of all of the melee classes by far.
But yes, compared to a ranged personthe toughness will help out some.

The rifle/pike makes me happy.
But the only reason I win with my pike is because I'm like a mini-CM, so that makes me feel kind of dirty.

I wouldn't mind using DoT pikes, but it'd be nice if you didn't have to....
I agree completely. Some people say the Dev's added the DoT pikes to make upfor our other shortcomings, since a DoT pike is the easiest to get in the game, although this would seem to go against their whole "crafted items are best" mantra. Then of course people fear that if they ever did fix Pikeman, that because of our easily obtained DoT pikes that Pikemen would then become too uber, which is probably true. So hopefullythis combat balance will take care of it, course I'm guessing that while Pikeman will get a big boost, DoT weapons will take a big nerf, which would be a good thing. The only way to compete in PvP at the moment is either through stun weapons or poisons, which is lame.
