I have Mastered the rifleman profesion and it seems to me to be a lot weaker than it should be. Also the range should be at least doubled in attack. I dont understand why the damage is limited the way it is or why many of the most powerful creatures in the game are completely immune to all rifle attacks? It seems to me that the devs are predjudiced to mellee profs and not really enterested in being true to the Star Wars mythos that focusses on laser fights. The use of axes and swords along with old fashoined armor is more like being in the middle ages and not some advanced technological society. The game seems weighted to hand to hand fighters.

Ok... sorry BigLew... had to get that initial reaction out of my system.
Can't tell for sure, but It appears that you are fairly new to the game.
First,Rifleman is considered one of the most powerful professions in the game. Many feel it is over-powered. Being able to fire a 700+ damageAP3 weapon at once per second is awesome. We have more damage type weapons (Acid, Energy, Heat, Cold, Stun) than any other class. Maybe you're not using your skills correctly?
Second, there are a couple of possible reasons for the range limitations. If we could deal the kind of damage I mention above from greater distances, then there would be no melee players and you would have SWG Rifleman Wars. Also, SWG used to claim (not sure if they still do) that the game mechanics prevented them from using any weapon at more than 64m. The only problem with that logic is that turrets can hit you at 90m.
As has been said by most knowledgeable riflemen at one time or another, Rifleman is one of the most well-designed, well-implemented professions in the game. If you feel it is weak, perhaps a sword or a pike would better fit you.

I had a few junior guildies out on safari the other night hunting famba for their melee grind. My job in life was to let them have their fun, andtake care of spineflaps, shauputs, plains hunters... The usual Nabooian wildlife. If they got overwhelmed, then I'd drop a famba or two. Other than that, it was their hunt.
They got to asking how long it would take me to actually solo one of these Dif52 Large Famba lairs. I didn't know, and they were curious, so I pulled outmydx6rb (basic stuff, with a nice slice), and put the clock on it. Took a knee 62m fromfrom a freshlair, andss2'd the lair. 15Sec later, the last famba was dead and wewere paid. Personally, I think I was a bit slow for that one.
When it comes tolittering a PvE field with dead things, RMrifle is the king. No other class can pour as much damage across as large an area as we can (what other class can spray 1000 sqm with 5*300+ points of ap3 once a sec?). No other class can attack a PvE target and remain un-agro'd. No other class can pick a target anywhere in their field of view, anddirect damage the mind pool.
When we have control of the situation, we can.
When we loose that control, no other combat class is as good at getting it's @** kicked as we are.

i agree. im only a 0-1-1-1 rifleman (trained in countersniping instead of sniping by mistake:smileysad
and i love it. i spent an hour and a half on dath hunting whatever i came across and i strickly used conceal shot. i made a macro usin the aim ability and conceal shot and i maybe got agroed twice. i was just toyin around with rifleman befor that point but after a half hour there i was sold on it.

To master a profession you would need to learn about it ^_^ hopefully wayneinaustin and others replies have helped open your eyes to the true strength of the rifleman. We are not the best at everything and we do have weaknesses but our strengths are many and our damage is plentiful.
We do not need the ability to solo everything in the game and that is why some creatures are immune to us and a range increase for us rifleman would mean that no one would play melee professions. The devs want all professions to be viable (though i will say some are less viable then others.... poor SL's and smugglers)
I believe i saw thunderheart a long time ago say that ranged weapons were to have supremecy over meleein combat- but when i went looking for the thread it appears to have disappeared like our rifleman abilitie to have kinetic weapons (it never existed according to them^_^)
