Thread: Ranged Weapons Ranges: Pistols shoot as acurate and far as rifles
I have been around Firearms my whole life whether it be hunting or the military but I cant seem to remember pistols being as effective at distances as rifles are concerned. Pistols are usually used for close combat or close hunting I personaly own a 357 w/ a 9" barrell I can use for hunting but it has no where near the rangeof a .270 and or the accuracy at distance. All these weapons will kill anything but at 3/4 of a football field a pistol becomes less acurate, a rifle w/ a decent marksman can make a shot at 200 yrds not 64yrds is a pretty easy shot for a novice marksman w/ a rifle.
So
So with that said I propose that the weapons ranges be changed to where all three are advantages at specific ranges otherwise why whould anyone choose anything beside pistols for there accuracy at distance and there close range effecitiveness.
In theory most pistols in game are significantly less accurate than rifles at 64m range. Check the weapon stats, most pistols get huge negative modifiers at that range. The FWG5 has the best range of any pistol and still it's "ideal" range is like 24m or so and it still takes a big hit at 64m.
Rifles take a huge accuracy penalty at short ranges but often have an ideal range of 45-55m...
The problems are numerous however. First, pistols have a high rate of fire, this tends to average out any penalties.. more shots means more hits even if they are less frequent. Because rifles are slower it's far more apparant how inaccurate they are at short ranges, you're taking fewer shots so any individual miss is far more devasting to overall results.
Likewise I've noticed that the range bonuses to weapons, in the long run, don't have a very noticeable impact on actual accuracy. As a pistol user I never once thought "gee, I'm at max range, better get closer as I might miss" because frankly, missing doesn't happen all that often, for any of the ranged weapons. And gets siginificantly less as you get more skilled.
I'd suggest the devs revisit the ranged bonuses, verify they are working as in intended, if not, fix them, if so... make the ranged modifiers have more impact. The goal is that your average ranged weapon user should want to user their weapon from their "ideal" range and should definately notice when they are not.
