Thread: rifleman/ranger or ranger/BH
I've been trying to figure out what I want to do as I advance through marksman and scout, and now that I'v nearly mastered scout I'm running out of time. These are the two builds I'm really considering. If I go with rifleman/ranger both could be masterd, putting the remaining 18 points into ranged 3 and pistol 3, or medic. Going ranger/bh would only allow mastering one, with level 4 in one skill and level 3 in another skill in the remaining class. I'm not really interested in PvP, but I might be once I've mastered everything I can.
My main concern with rifleman is getting into a melee situation and having no backup. With BH, even if I only take pistol IV and carbine III (allowing me to master ranger), I think I'd be able to handle myself given any situation much better.
I finished my pistol spec the other day and I'm now working on rifle spec, and I am really enjoying using the rifle. I like picking enemies off one by one from a distance, but when I'm rushed I usually have to switch over to my pistol. That works fine now considering I'm more skilled with the pistol anyways, but down the road when I have to drop pistol down to expert and I'm facing tougher mobs, that's not going to work. On the other hand I do like the idea of having good training in multiple weapons to better match the situation. If the worthless LLC line in BH was a rifle line I would almost definately go that route.
Anyways, that's my current situation. Any advice would be appreciated.
lowbie rifles work quite differently then the advanced ones. both ability, but most important of all HAM cost and tactic wise.
rifles are all mind/action. i would say 66% mind, 33% action. and the tactics amount to either stealth and notgeting agro in 1st place, or leting others tank and not geting agro. you get a defense penalty while holding a rifle, so fighting toe-to-toe is extremely bad idea.
if i had to compare rifleman to any class/prof from otehr games, i would say its like playing an archer in DoAC, ora wiz in EQ, kinda between those 2 tactic wise.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with ranger/rifleman. I know I'd never want to do the bounty hunter missions in there current state, so I'd just be taking BH for the weapon skills.
I know this would go better in the CH forum but I thought it better to ask here since I don't think they like dabblers in that forum - I have something like 18 skill points left after master ranger/master rifleman, which is enough for CH plus taming III. After the patch, will that be enough for a single tank, and what would make a good tank. Something with high HAM and will last, damage isn't as important. It seems like all of the other CH skills are for teaching it commands and allowing extra pets. All I want is one good tank to help out when things move in close. But there are a couple of commands I'd want, such as group, guard, trick1. Can those all be taught by someone else and transfered to me? It looks like I wouldn't be able to teach the transfer command, so I'd just have to buy the creature from someone else.
So any advice from a rifleman that has a small amount of CH skills?
