I'm a Weaponsmith. (Okay, I'm a Novice Weaponsmith.)
57 Artisan (Engineering IV, Business IV, Surveying IV)
38 Marksman (???? IV, Support III)
29 Scout (Exploration IV)
63 ???? (Master)
63 Weaponsmith (Master)

That's my final template, and I'm positive I want to be a Weaponsmith. But I can't for the life of me decide between Pistoleer & Rifleman. I'm not going to post this on the Pistoleer boards, because I'm already a Novice Pistoleer, and I keep looking at the rifle.
Using a pistol, I fire so damned fast, it's disturbing. I primarily yo-yo kite at the moment, and I would say that Warning Shot is 75% effective. That means that there's about a 12.5% chance that I'll get two in a row that don't work. That's not the best odds when you have to Warning Shot repeatedly. If it doesn't take with the pistol? So what... run a bit farther, the next one is happening within 2 seconds or so, and it's all good.
My rifle is SOOO slow. I'm using a DLT20a with like 154 max, and 6.4 delay I think. It's impossible to yo-yo, really. I *have* to switch to a pistol, then warning shot it away, then switch to rifle and blast it. Not to mention the inordinate amount of damage you take if they get close. Grrr.
At Rifle IV (stopped there and tried pistol) I can drop a nice Mind Shot 1, then queue a few Head Shot 2s, and then it starts to charge. I instantly swap to the pistol and zap it with Warning Shot, and pray it takes--because the pistol won't fire till the rifle's delay ends!
That's it. That's my real issue with the stupid thing. The rifle is so freaking slow it hurts. And I HAVE to use a pistol to Warning Shot. That urks me, alot. So that's my question:
1. Will the rifle ever get fast enough that I can reliably take two Warning Shots from about 30m with it before getting mauled?
If I didn't have to swap guns to use Warning Shot, I would probably really love the rifle. I'd like swapping to a pistol and spamming Warning Shot to be a tactic for escaping an ambush while travelling, not me default method of XP. Anxious for replies, thanks!

I use a newbie CDEF Rifle sliced for speed to warning shot with. The only trouble I have is hitting peace before I shoot it again, wasting my warning shot.The Spraystick is also meant to be good but I havn't tried it yet.
To be honest if you just want a gun for self defence / big groups pistol as it stands is far better. Better damage per second, no nasty point blank damage/accuracy penalty and it hits at 60m as well as a rifle.
I got master marksman first to decide which gun I liked better and the pistol was FAR easier to use.

That's still swapping. I can swap to a 1.7 sec Scout Blaster for Warning Shot. I don't care how much damage it does, as long as the thing runs away. Here's a typical fight, both pistol & rifle, on a really big creature (yields 1500+ XP), like a swamp humbama on Corellia.
Rifle:
/prone at 60m
/mindShot1
/headShot2
/headShot2
/headShot2
/stand
Switch to Pistol
/warningShot
(now wait for the refire time on the rifle to finish before the pistol actually shoots)
If the Warning shot doesn't take, who cares, the pistol will refire in just a second. It's the FIRST warning shot, waiting for the delay of HeadShot2 to finish. Does this ever get better? Because it's REALLY a hassle.
With a Pistol?
See a red con as I'm running to my harvestor, slap it with HealthShot1 (pistol iv only, won't include pistoleer), then a BodyShot2 and maybe another. It's chasing me now, but who cares, I'm still 30m off easily. Zap it with Warning Shot and /peace right away. If it doesn't take? It's at 24m tops, another warning shot. Didn't take... well this is annoying, another. Pop, got it. Now let it get out to 50m or so and queue a few body shots (2-3) then warning shot again.
