Thread: I want to be a rifleman (advice?)

Greetings I have been reading this board lately and no one has anything nice to say about this profession for some reason.

Here's my situation: I play regularly with 2 pistoleers and I wanted something different than them but not something that takes as many skill points as the hybrid professions.

Now I am sitting here able to train in Novice Rifleman and I'm reluctant to do so.

What I'm asking for is.. could any of you please offer me advice or reasons why the profession is a good choice? Am I about to make a horrible decision?

Also... if I do train in it, how should my stats be adjusted? ATM I have max (1000) health and about even action and mind.

Thank you in advance, I appreciate any advice offered

there's a thread labeled tips for riflemen...read some of it. Max your mind stats, its worth it when you hit master level apparently but for me its just grinidng like any other prof, if you want to "own" at pvp dont choose it, otherwise its alright. Besides, the dev's have to restore us thanks to what they just did...right?

Well i got to say personally, i like being a rifleman, it's not the greatest class in the game, but it's not really the worst.

It all depends on the way you play the game, more than often i find myself running like a little bizatch from mobs cuz my dummy group-mates think im not pulling my weight and lead the mobs to me...

you must remember your goal is to stay far far away from the baddies or else your fish bait...

But wheni am in a group that understands the strengths of having a rifleman, it's pure bliss... The guys with more health take the brunt of the hits while keeping the baddies at bay while i usually pelt thetarget with massive loads of mind dmg. (A couple guys spamming warningshot can go a long way)

I think rifleman takes much different tactics, but can be rather effective.

My HAM amounts are 750 800 950 respectively with the secondaries of mind really pumped up. this allows me to use lots of specials with minimal downtime.

Anyways, just try it out if you like, i just got mindshot2, and im finding myself able to easilysolo somenon-social reds with only an E-11 and LaserRifle for the very first time

Do NOT touch rifleman. You need a LARGE skillpoint commitment(doesn't sound like you've got the points to make it worth it)to be viable with it. Sadly, you are just better with a pistol. At the novice level a pistol will outdamage a rifle at a rate of near 2 to 1, while even costing less HAM to do that damage.

I think you should just wait till Aldeons time as team lead is done, so we can get to the real issues of rifleman, and we can do what we can to stop the nerfage.

Other than that I would definetely wait because what we have now is 3 people who are saying master rifleman is too uber and a couple that are saying it is not.

So basically unless you are master rifleman, and the ones who are solo'd and exploited to get there, they could care less about the people coming up.

Basically ,,I,, just get master rifleman and everything is cool.

Advice...hmmm well first of all...idc how good rifleman is...its so far the most fun profession i have found in the game...with guns that ALL have their advantanges...and life on the edge of 1 shot in some cases... it can b quite intense...and i love it

most fun ever and i total love the game cause of it....just waiting till i get to CH then ill OWN ALL PVE!!! and might dabble in a lil PvP here and there...

PS...dont pick Rifleman if all u wanna do is b good at PvP...cuase its not that good till u get to like 4-any-any-4

Umm, I got master fine without exploiting, it just takes time. Rifleman is not worth it unless you're going to master.

Forget it unless you're going to get master rifleman.. a master rifleman automatically does at least 3x damage than someone even with every other box filled up in the rifleman tree from the speed increase at master (assuming the person isn't a master marksman at master rifleman their weapon will fire at 1/10 speed, before that at best 3/10 speed). Unless you go for master you are better off using a fast weapon like a pistol it is far easierat the lower skill levels to survive and level with a pistol due to the high base speed andlower ham costs. With only pistol specialist(< novice pistoleer) I could killthe same mobs i could with the rifle until I started working on the top row in the rifleman tree with greater ease (due to the speed of special attacks like suppression fire and warning shot). Carbines may be a good choice if you're looking to do something different from your friends but don't want to master rifleman... they are pretty quick. Rifleman is a great choice,if you are going to stick it out to master.. it's the short term pain, long term gain profession.

I got master and it was awesome... the the T21 was nerfed and I was almost killed by an expert marksman... it's really embarrassing to have to result to strafe2 on someone of that low a level in order to live...

Rifle is fun and its very dangerous, but as it is we have too many things stacking up against us and no real advantages.

Before the nerf I could kill someone by sacrificing half my mind. Now it's about 3/4 of my mind for one kill... it takes a lot of fun out of the game and has been forcing me to hunt rebels in groups instead of doing the solitary sniper thing that riflemen are supposed to be able to do

Rifleman is wrecked.... I hate playing it now.

Play a pistoleer or BH or commando.

You'll never die with those classe... I'll be back in SWG when they fix rifleman.
