I'd like to ask for your advice. At present I am expert rifle and plan to concentrate on rilfe skills to master.

When attacking creatures and they come into melee range, if I have the rifle equipped there is a x2 multiplier to damge delivered to me. So I'd like to know what weapon to switch to. Being a wookie and being excpetionally strong I was considering some kind of hand to hand weapon or even possibly unarmed. The reason I was thinking of doing this instead of pistols is because of the strength that wookies have. So please give me some advice. Should I consider this or should I stay completely away from it and concentrate on rifles only? There's alot of choices and before I make a decison I'd like your input. Thank you.

I suppose it depends on what your attacking.

If your a Scout, most of your targets will be animals, and thanks to the totally unrealistic AI that has domesticated Herbivors herd-charging you, you may want to try a brawling skill becuase they WILL get up close to you until you ace the whole tree and get a medium good rifle.

Now if you hunt sentints, it's a different story. They, if using firearms as well anyway, hang back, thus allowing(in theory) you, the rifleman, to pick them apart at your lesiure, and my advice would be stick to just the rifle tree for now, and supplament latter as you feel it's needed.

The best Melee Weapon Combo used with a Rifle is Two-Handed Sword. They both specialize in mind damage, and if you pick up Scout, you can use a spur trap to inflict more.

Basically, it's a specialized way of fighting, and living to tell the tale. Of course, if you run across a creature or NPC that has a very high Mind Pool, or has some resistance somehow to your Mind Pool affects... you'll have to theorize real quick what you are going to do next.

If the mind pool is more than 3x larger than the other stats, you could just fire at random or use overcharged shot. Random fire tends to concentrate on health/action primarily, so you can still inflict damage (it may depend on the enemy, but this is just my experience).

Two handed is the way to go. Rifles do mind damage. Hense switching to anything that doesn't do mind damage is inefficient and will mean more damage to you. Two handed also does mind damage so thats the ticket. A Master Rifleman and a Master Swordsman would be an AWESOME combination if pure battle is your thing.

Wouldn't the Swordsman and Rifleman make you have to have a large mind pool thus reducing the other pools, making you weaker in melee?

If you are a Rifleman, why would you be THAT concerned with Melee?

If you are THAT good with a Rifle, the chance of the creature or NPC having much left when it gets to you will be minimal, else, don't attack it in the first place.

The Two-Handed Sword is just to finish them off. It's more of an after thought than anything else. It's there because it is the melee weapon that doesn't Mind damage -- or can, with the right special move.

If you want to be a Brawler, with Rifle as an after-thought, good luck to you, but those answers aren't on this forum.

I guess my question wasn't clear.

Say if you are using a rifle and your special attacks are using mind damage. When or if the monster gets to you then you will bring out your 2hs to finish it off, right? What if your mind pool is already drained heavily from the rifle? Does the 2hs use that weakened mind pool to finish off the enemy, thus making you weak as well?

The 2hs is not the only melee profession to target the mind pool only. For example, the Teras Kasi Artist gets to attack all 3 pools so you would have one to attack the mind and finish it off without actually using the damaged mind pool to exert the special ability.

Ugh I feel like a noob. Do you really take x2 damage when you have a rifle equipped and something closes to melee range.

Nope. In fact, it makes you take x3 damage. Carbine is x2. Pistol is x1.2.

Furthermore, kneeling makes you take an additional x2 damage. Prone is, i believe, x3.

Your 2h slashing weapon tends to do take a bit less from your mind pool than a rifle. However, if your going to do 2h slashing and rifle (which is a great combo) then your best bet is to fiddle with your stat bars. Im doing rifle, 2h slash, and medic. All of which use mind. So what im doing is migrating the stats devoted to action and health that control recharge rate, to the mind skills. That way when ill have enough mind during a battle to use all the specials i want, ill also be able to recharge quickly to use my stims to heal action and health.
