Thread: Rifle Rate of Fire makes tactical shots useless

The speed of a rifle makes it virtually impssible to effectively use suppresiveand tactical special moves. For example, If I open up at maximum effective range,I canusually get two headshots in before the mob begins its cahrge. At this point, I would like to use a tactical shot such as suppression fire, wrning shot, or threaten shot, but by the time my next comabt round rolls around, the mob is right on top of me at belee range and I usually miss. So essentially the mob covers about 50m of ground in one round. Any way to compensate for this?

More or less realistic. Rifles are not good for supressive fire, that's what machine guns and automatic rifles (Carbines) are for. However, suppressive fire is currently bugged and does nothing anyway.

I used suppressive fire only as an example. The issue relates to almost any kind of tactical attack. Basically, tactical attacks are used when you have to quickly adapt to a change in the combat situation. Rifle speed makes that impossible.

Correct... no tactics, just kiting one's head. That's all.

Use a faster rifle...CDEF actually. You can get them with 45-60 dmg and a speed of around 3. I'm going to start carrying both a high dmg rifle as well as my CDEF. If you can kill a creature in three shots or so, take the high damage/low rate of fire rifle. However, if you attack red con mobs with a fast rifle, you can usually get off 3 head shots, then a warning shot before they close. It seems that mobs attack after a number of shots, not a specific amount of time. The other thought would be to open with two head shots from a high damage rifle, switch to CDEF and pop another head shot, then warnings, etc. The weapons available to me at the moment on Kauri all cause about the same damage over time. A good CDEF will give dmg on the order of 110-150 in the same time a dlt20A or E11 will (based on 45-60 with speed of 3 vs 110-150 and speed of 7.5).

I carry around a laser rifle 11-265 damage speed 7.1 for my starting shots... I can easily headshot for over 1000 damage with it.. when they begin to close in i switch to my dlt20 6.9 88-138 damage. it has a shorter ideal range (45m over the 60m for the laser) so it does a little better.

Then again, I"m a creature handler so I don't often have to worry bout the aggro getting close anymore. I have my tank Humbaba to take care of that for me.
