Ok im almost convinced now that im going to be a rifleman...

my two questions are.. what is a good skill to go along with this? (i was going to be pikeman)

-with pikeman

+ is it worth having a melee skill with rifle (are rifle stats lowered enough to have a close ranged skill to go along with it?)

is there a better combo with rifle?

I invite you to read my post on rifleman and bounty hunter for some ideas. Nevertheless since you suggested you wanted to use melee tactics there is one category of weapon perfectly complementary to the rifle, namely 2handed style.

The reason behind that is that rifle and 2handed weapons both specialize in damages made to your opponent mindpool, therefor they work gret together.
