Thread: Devs lied about heavy weapon range
The devs said that the insane damage of heavy weapons was justified by their lousy range.
Guess what... they lied.
I was dueling someone yesterday who was using a Heavy Partical Beam weapon. I was shot for 2500 pvp damage from a range of 48 m... It was a one-hit incap and I didn't even get to get a shot off.
I thought they said these things were supposed to have a low range of like 16 m?

i get 1 shot incapped by a commando using a flamethrower at 64 meters. so much for being a sniper eh?
i know its a bug, but the devs have made *no* mention of it and plans to fix it.
The weapon you're talking about isn't one of the weapons they were refering too. The Heavy Acid Rifle and Flame Thrower must be within 16 meters to work a special attack. The Heavy Beam Cannon is a weapon with a limited number of uses, high damage, slow fire, and no special attacks so what you see on the stats is what you get. To fire one you have to stop and kneel and then it goes through a firing animation (4-5 seconds)but you can't be moving to use it.
The Devs have talked about making this weapon more accurate against larger targets (AT-STs/Towers/Etc.) and less accurate against individual players, I expect this to happen.

Yes they have and they planed to re-class it as a ranged weapon.

I thought they said something about Heavy Weapons being reclassed as ranged?
Hoabob,
What's the 4-5 second firing animation?
I challenged first, so I was beating away at the headshot 3 key in anticipation for when the other guy would start the duel (I knew he was using a super weapon).
If there is a 4-5 second animation it sure didn't do anything to save me because I was incapped before I could get a single shot off.
So my guess is that if there is an animation it takes place after you've been blown up.

I was just walking through Bestine today as a declared imp and noticed a rebel attack going on, so I whip out my T21 to bleed some faction pets when a rebel I hadn't came up and incapped me instantly. I spawned and decided to use a MS 2 using the revenge TEF. I lined up as far away as I could(because falme throwers are short range right?) get my shot .0002 seconds later bamm dead again. This is freaking rediculous what good is our profession if every other freaking class can out snipe, out dmg, and out shoot us?????
FIX THIS SH1T NOW!!!!!

Exactlly why i hardly play my rifleman anymore. The flamethrowers are balanced as far as range/dmg but the acid rifles are not. I have been hit in excess of 3k dmg by them from 50 meters. I usually don't let a few balance flaws effect my pvping but this is rediculous. Soon as I start pvping with my rifleman I am incapped and there are SO many commandos now.
I made a commando killer alt (TKA/combat medic)out of spite and I have quite a bit of fun owning commandos almost 100% of the time. With my 50ish unarmed toughness and compositearmor they only hit me for 200ish maxwith flamethrower/acid rifle specials, I can do over 200 per tick ae mind dmg with my poisons (500 per tickonce i get my cm skills higher). Since commandos waste so many points to get the proffession they hardly ever havecure poison/disease.
If they are even the slightest bit unclear, people jump on them claiming that they were 'lied' to.
The short range that was referred to in the dev post was in regards to the flamethrower and LLC specials, not lefthand weapons. Don't jump to conclusions.
