Not going to get too wordy so, but suffice to say I was drinking this weekend.. Tequila can make anything happen...

Anyway, if the Rifle profession is planned to revolve around cover, one of our primary issues is keeping mobs/players at range. Knockdown, was properly nerfed as you could keep a player/mob unable to retaliate for a great deal of time (Although, I think the dizzy nerf is stupid). Suppression Fire was also a good target to nerf since you could keep a melee player or mob rooted in place and have little or no risk to your person.. So here is a suggestion for a solution:

Rifle Special Abilities II - Single Target KNOCK-BACK. No damage multiplier, Same Delay as Flushing Shot2, reasonable HAM cost. Will knock 1 target 20 - 30 meters away from the rifleman. Can only be fired from cover.. You could have it change posture to prone but since that would be a posture change, 30 second timer.. Has a short range of use (Say closer than 35 meters) so that you could not move people out of combat range.

Master Rifleman - Area of Effect (Cone) KNOCK-BACK. Same as above with a 1.5 damage multiplier, 30 - 40 meter movement, and could potentially affect multiple targets. Has a slightly better range of use (Say 40 meters) and could potentially move people out of range.

So, the damage would be minimal with the no or low modifier, especially in pvp. Have a better chance at keeping opponents at bay in PvE. In PvP the effect keeps players at distance, but does not cause delay or prevent them from attacking back at range.

To help the Melee profession folks, you could add a defense vs. knock back toward the top end of their combat xp line. And ranged folks could also get a defense vs. knock back as well, just not as much since they are not nearly as affected.

Anyone who has played EQ is familiar with knock back. It was a pretty cool gimmick.. Anyway, what do you all think?

Sounds like a great idea....but what if you're in an interior or are near the edge of a planet?

Verhoffin,

"Sounds like a great idea....but what if you're in an interior or are near the edge of a planet?"

Bah! I told you I was drinking!

I don't know. In EQ, you would just hit whatever was behind you and stop. I would assume that if there was any barrier behind you in SWG, you would want to stop as well. Which would be an interesting counterbalance. Inside a small building, I wouldn't want to lay down & cover anayway to use the shot.

I would pull out my sidearm & if anyone got too close, pistolwhip em.

Yeah, SWG collision detection is awesome, so that would definitely not get b0rked in ANY way
