Thread: Beginner Tactics
Hey all,
Been reading for a while and good to see that I'm not the only player struggling with this profession!
Like many of you though, I like the concept of the Rifleman, and want to push through it to reach our benefits now, and in the future.
After reading a number of the posts I realized that I wasn't using my full arsenal. I solo alot, and am trying to come up with the best way to take down a tough yellow mob atthe moment. What I am nowtrying, with some success (assuming only 1 creature and it doesn't warp on MY HEAD) is this: (currently 1-0-0-0)
Mindbleed2
Mindbleed1
Suppression Shot
Headshot2 (if suppression hits/works, if not, try it again)
Headshot2
Warning Shot
Finish off with Headshots (if warning hits/works)
I'm kneeling when firing to avoid the warp bug of me, and to better escape if something warps on me. The above is currently withoutpet support, as my pet is battered but I have ordered a tougher one. The above serves to do pretty well keeping something away from me. If the Supression or Warning shots don't take, and I'm not sturbborn, I'll get up, run away, throw a slow trap, and continue. I'm also working on 2-Handed melee to take the place of my current TKA skills for head damage in close range. I'm currently halfway to Sniping II.
I'm doing this with a decent DL20a for the consistent damage and lower HAM costs. I also have a decent Laser and E11 rifle, and a T21 and Spraystick on order to experiment with. I haven't yet tried swapping weapons during battle for fear of getting confused/messing up.
Can I get some feedback on the above, tips for success, and general criticisms to helpimprove my tactics? Again, this is mainly for PVE to help me get XP and skills to then move over to more PVP.
Thanks!
Thanks for the tip Swiller. I didn't think Conceal shot worked that way but sounds like it is perfect for a grinding session. I'm close to Sniping II, but closer to Conceal so maybe I'll get that to burn through XP.
Any other tips based on my comments above anyone?
Thanks all,
I did not either, but I ran out of stims for the pets the other day and decided to play around with my combos to see if any worked and was plesantly surprised at how this works. Just don't try it on any mobs that have friends nearby.
Your target will just stand there getting shot, but its friends will be on you in a second. Was playing around with this on Dathomir on an Arch Witch and was not paying attention. Well another witch wandered by and gave me a quick trip to the cloning center.
Random thoughts:
-- You mayNOT want to go do the dishes with conceal shot. If you miss twice, the MOB can come after you. At my level, I rarely miss with prone conceal shot, but it does happen.
--Also, your MS2,MS1,HS,WS method is not necessarily just a "beginner" method. I am 4/2/3/4 and it is still the preferred method to take down a MOB. Only now I throw in some HS3s depending on my Mind bar status.
-- If the MOB has a ranged attack, then you might want to make your second HS a Flurry shot (dizzy) instead. Fire till it sticks, so they miss you a lot more.
How am I supposed to get my housework done then?![]()
I guess I have been lucky with the misses. But I got the third tier in sniper, so I don't miss all that often prone and have not had them charge me with it. Did not know they did to tell you the truth. I usually have another rifleman with me, so we use pets, stack bleeds and hs3salot of the time.
But the miss thing may explain how that tusk cat killed me the other day taking out the trash.
If you get conceal shot for your next skill, you can solo almost any mob that is by itself. It is boring as heck and takes forever. But if you don't want to use a pet, here ya go.
go prone
/takecover
spam conceal shot 20 times( I just que a bunch up)
go do the dishes oreat a sandwich
come back loot/harvest and find a new target.
