Hey Gang,

I have one simple question, is becoming a Master Rifleman really worth all the skill points just to have the speed that the master rifleman praise ?

I have been PVPING in MMORPG's for over8 years and one thing that I have always noted is that thecookie cutter professions (Master Bounty Hunter, Master Commando, Master Swordsman..) could always be taken down by a player that DID NOT over specialize in one profession, but made the effort to blend his character out more to deal with a variety of situations.

What it boils down to is SPEED isnt everything..

I can think of alot more productive ways to use all those skill points that are wasted just to enjoy the speed benefit that Master Riflemen enjoy. I keep hearing from various people that you shouldnt even engage in PVP unless you are a Master..

I am a SNIPER (4/0/0/0)nothing more nothing less, and I found it more befenical to think outside of the box and blend my character with being a SWORDSMAN (0/4/0/0) Swordsman enjoy the Mind dmg benefitsin melee fightsthat Rifleman get at far distance. So in the end I am still focusing on the mind barand dont lose my edge when all those noob pistol guys rush me.. Heh I actually welcome it..

To add insult to injury,I have enough skillin being a COMBAT MEDIC (4/0/4/0). To cause Area Mind Disease to kill off all those fools I didnt get !!

So why take on broken and stupid skills when all you want to do is PVP ?

Conceal shot...Suprise Shot... Sneak.. I might of actually thought about taking on these skills if they were worth a **edit** in PVP but they aint..

Take it from me,True skill comes from adapting to all types of situations.. Dying in PVP because you were GANKED.. RUSHED..KITED..or TANKED.. is NEVER a excuse !

There is enough skill points and variety in this game that you can pretty much take on EVERYTHING.. You just got to know what you are dealing with... and Cookie Cutter Professions ALWAYS make it easy..

I don't think its just the speed that makes master rifleman good, its the skill you get with it ; strafe shot 2. If you tell me 6k aoe damage in pve isn't good,(i've been told this to be the casefrom anumber of master sharpshooters)then I don't don't know what is.

If PvE is your thing then great, take on Strafe Shot 2..

Strafe Shot 2 is also the ultimate PvP skill. The true power isn't shown in 1 on 1 situations, but it still has 4x damage as opposed to 3x. And it got lower ham costs than HS3. It's very potent when fighting people with pets or several enemies at the same time. I often take out one player, his 3 faction pets and a low level pet in 2 shots. And in large PvP battles I can often kill 4-5 players grouped togheter with 2-3 shots.

you bring up a good point, but what if I want to do a skill that is non combat, such as musician to buff my mind, how could I combine that with other combat professions, I wish they had made two different kinds of skill points, comabat and non-combat and you could explore each. People get bored with combat and they get bored with non-combat activities wouldn't it have been smarter to let us dabble in both? I mean we can but as you say it is best to take a little of each profession, so I'm a 4-0-0-1 rifleman, a master marksman and a pretty high up CH, so i'm trying to get a little into musician to get benefits like buffing my mind, it really sucks that now I'm out of skill points. It would be nice if you could have a set number of skill points for each kind of playing

heh, just an off topic thought

Heheh I would like to think that if it does 6k in PvE, that it would be just as viable in pvp. If you have a high end laser rifle or something, you should be a pretty good force in pve. And of course there is sniper shot, which makes so you don't even have to move close to db someone, which is particulary nice, although not a skill at master. Of course i agree with you though, that if your a rifleman you are gonna need a melee skill or you are screwed when someone gets close.

1) Strafeshot 2 is a 5x damage multiplier. This is a lot. It's also a 64m AE attack.

2) Rifles have the highest damage per shot of non-heavy weapons. Master rifleman + master marksman lets you cap with virtually any weapon. Capping speed provides the most advantage to high damage-per-shot weapons.

3) You can only use one attack at a time. You can benefit from any number of defenses at a time. For PvP, you are better off having one main attack and lots of defense mods from various classes. The exception currently is CH, as it gives you an 'attack' which can be done in parallel with your regular attack.

It seems like you've already made up your mind. My perspective is that if you intend to group PvP with a regular group, you are almost always better off specializing. As a master rifle/master marksman, my specialty is doing damage, and doing it faster than anyone else over a large area.

I can to the conclussion that most people totally disregard any advice and go with what they want anyway.

If you dont think it is worth it, then dont become a Master Rifleman, your choice to make. I thought the same thing a few months ago but I took a chance and listened to the few Masters that there were and I am very happy I did.

Little off topic but your template will get rolled by a true combat template. You will get one shot with your Rilfe, actually your best attack will end up being posion/disease, but if you shoot before using that you will be dead before having the chance, and if you use the posion you will be dead before you get the chance to shoot again. Only thing you can hope for is the person is close enough so you can TEF him, oh wait they are taking that out, there goes that theory.
