It took me a while to figure out this new system, it seems to be much more fun now. I can't decide though if the thinking caps were on, or just way out in left field...anyway, the topic of this post is to share with you tactics I use for hunting. First thing is first, here's my template:

Master Rifles

Master Marksman

Bounty Hunter 0404

Pistols 0004

Scout 4000

Force Sensitve: Ranged Defense, Meele Defense, Meele Speed, Meele Accuracy, Luck

The weapon I use is a T21 with 449 - 1080 DMG. My modified DPS is 441.

Cover has been working just fine for me. I find that you do have to spam it 10 or 20 times to get it to work on a hill. For those who don't know if the icon flash's red or you hear a "chunck" sound, it wont work, and you may as well hit your Cover hotkey again before the wind p finishes. I find also that if you get halfway and the Cover doesn't work, it will eventually work in that spot, you just need to hit it a few more times, while if Cover flahses red right off the bat, you may be too close to an NPC or a bike, but still give it like 5 or 10 tries before you give up.

Anyway, when hunting creatures of +/- 2 levels I will circle around the lair for a good spot to go prone. Once I find this I use Cover. As mentioned above depending on conditions you may have to spam it 20 times before the bar goes all the way without failing. Once that is done, I unload two Conceal Shots. They do roughly over 1,000, but never more the 1500. I don't use three Conceal Shots because almost always you are discovered on the third shot, and the creature tends to move 10m - 15m closer to you after evey Conceal Shot anyway. Because of this, I find it is much more advantageous to use Sniper Shot for your third shot. This does break cover, however. My Sniper Shot almost always hits for over 2k, and once I hit a 2459 on a Ronto. (Most likely a fluke since it hasn't happened since).

Now here's where it get's intresting. Since you cover is broken, the creature will most likely be charging at you. What I used to do was a no-brainer - Knee Cap shot. However because of my Pistol Skills, I can use Stopping Shot. Which will stop the creature dead in its tracks. Because of the BH Skills I get Blind Shot and Torso Shot, which I tend to use while the creature is stopped. When the Stopping Shot starts to wear off, I fire off a Knee Cap, and start running away. Now I mix Startle with Head Shots, one after the other, and the creature usually goes down before it can hit me. Head Shot usually doesover 1k damage, and Startle does about 900.

Well, I'm running out of things to type, so if you have any ideas/questions/comments/critques, I'd be happy to read them.

Well, I am still working on Pistoleer, but here is my template right now:

MRifle/MBH/Marksman 4/4/0/4/Scout 4/0/0/0/Novice Medic
FS Ranged Speed 4, Melee Speed 3, andI have unlocked Ranged Accuracy (I was GOING to unlock Melee Accuracy, but the CU hosed that attemp *shrug* I'll do it next time around).

I group with a MPistols, but once I have stopping shot, this will be my methodology:

Prone - Conceal - Conceal Shot x2 - Aim - Sniper Shot - Stopping Shot - Crit Shot - ...

I'm not sure where I'll go from there. I am still playing with the specials. Suggestions are welcome, though.

drop novice medic...jedi hit harder than it can heal..its more worthwhile to get some specials from pisols or carbs or defense lines from them.

although wasteful in skill pts, master bounty hunter's advanced critical shot can do around 1200 damage, and right after that I plug a headshot, then back to critical, since their windup timers are different and don't overlap (is that a bug??)

Should I move back to pistols 0003 for stopping shot? Is it worth losing advanced critical? How good is master rifleman's startle/sniper? What's so good about master marksman? Plz answer

Stopping shot is good stuff. Personally, I'm keeping MBH for more than just adv. crit. KD and duelist stance are my faves, but I don't overlook the bleed, stun, dizzy and blind.

Master Marksman gives (if I recall correctly) +25 general ranged accuracy (nice) +10 general ranged speed and +5 ranged defense.

I was running MRM, MBH, MM, Pistols 0003, but I've dropped MM and the carbs line for Pistols 0404. This gives me another delay (disarming shot) on a different timer than startle shot. If I have the action and only one target (PvE), I can alternate disarming and startle and keep them delayed while I whittle them down.

I use a very similar approach when hunting. I am MR, 0444 BH and 0003 pistoleer. on the rare occasion I can cover, and can use conceal shot, I do follow up with sniper shot, stopping shot, blind shot, torso shot, critical shot, kneecap.. etc..

usually I get to sniper shot, maybe twice, stopping shot, torso shot, blind shot, critical shot, run and start to kite, using placed shot.

most frequently now.. I usually shoot one target, make the other three aware of my existance, then all four of them come after me and I get incapped.

but what can I say its a learning experience. I do miss strafe shot 2 though... I'd love to have a cone attack for when that happens... or at leasta master level special rifle in game.. maybe even an e-web.../keeps dreaming.

jedis range cap is round 33-35 meters if nov the extra heal for how ever much helps if your gettin hit then your not using your rifles range to your advantage. MR/MBH/pistols 0/0/0/3/nov medic the medic helps with the long timer on stims for when I zing when i should have zagged and they get the 1-2 hits in. best way to win the battle is to force the battle to be fought on your own terms

This is the exact template I am running now. MBH, Master Rifleman, Pistoleer 0404. I used to be MBH, Master pistols, Carbineer 0/0/3/0 but I like this new template much better. You still have a good stopping shot, crippling shot is replaced by kneecap shot and critical shot/headshot combo hits hard. Plus you get more ranged accuracy and since I typically use a bowcaster the added rifle accuracy in this new template helps a lot.

Master Rifleman, Ranger 0044 working towards master Ranger (so far got enough exp for another tree but I'm waiting to train to keep my CL at my current level (67).

This works fine PvE for critters up to 4 levels above me.

At 64m, Target Creature and either /aim /Advanced headshot or /snipershot

Hit with a P-Dart, auto fire ranged shot, dropping in the odd /advanced headshot and /startle, whilst keeping the critter close to 64m, but I survive Grauls Quenkers etc which close up to within 10m so long as they are trapped and slow.

Gladly accept the 3500 rifles exp, 500 trapping exp, 350 combat exp and 3500 scout exp. (approximate values - sometimes more sometimes less - most I get tends to be around 4k for rifles and scout with inspiration buffs bonus), bag to 64m range and target net critter.

Using this method I now have enough exp to train up a further tree of Ranger, plus around 600k rifles, 66k trapping, 60k combat exp to bank next time at village and it only took 2-3 hours solo

I have found myself never using cover for PvE combat as I have found it to be uneccessary.

My template

Master Ranger/Master Rifleman (CL80)

Equipped with full set Tantel Padded Recon armor/or set of Bone Battle armor

I have no ranged mod AAs/CAs at this time

Weapon is a T21 (455 Mod. DPS, 1.54 attk speed, 989 max dam, +1 Accuracy)

Combat Tactic (Creatures)

I use a R3 droid with a trap launcher that I operate via continus loop macro (droid pops a Phenacine Dart trap every few seconds to keep the creaturesnared)

I kneel at range and use a combo of Adv Headshot/Adv. Startleshot and Placed Shot once mob is down to 25% I will go prone and use Sniper SHot as the finishing blow.

If the creature breaks snare a lot, I simply kite it using headhshot/startleshot/kneecap shot to do damage until a P-dart snare sticks

Combat Tactic (NPCs)

Similar to above except I have to use kneecap shot a lot more since the droid option as stated above wont work. I of course wearRecon armor instead of Battle for the advanced Energy resists. Also I dont do as much kiting, because of stun effects that land on me, so I tend to go prone and duke it out in a pitched blaster battle. (works good since the ranged NPCs tend to do the same thing, making ita real rifleman battle)
