yes its true you can easily avoid the 2.5x damage penalty when your pve'ing in a large group

the penalty is in effect when you are holding your gun

next time instead of getting hit for 800+ by a piket or baz nitch try this:

hotbar your gun on your toolbar if your the type of person who uses like a laser rifle and a spraystick for close up like me youll have your guns hotbared anyway

when you notice yourself getting agro and a mob coming at you UNEQUIP your gun

you will take normal melee damage as if you were a teras kasi

of course you wont do any damage youll start punching the mob but if your a doctor like me or actually if your a rifleman period you dont want agro anyway so just unequip your gun and get a group mate to tank it off you or pet it or knock it down etc

besides everyone knows if a mob is closer than 30m to you unless you have a spraystick out you wont hit it in a million years anyway so why take 800 dmg when you can take 200-300 and live

especially if your the doctor or cm, cant revive yourself

in pvp, when id go up against a LLC'er BH or a commando, when they did melee damage, id shoot, then equip a pistol when they shot. then i could avoid getting the 2.5x melee multiplier damage from them, and when i was almost ready to shoot again id switch back to the T-21

What a novel idea I never thought of doing something to get rid of my bane

Honestly did you really think you needed to post this? Besides it has an inherent flaw...you have to be grouped and subsequently would have tanks so you don't have to worry about melee that much.

heres an example

krayt hunting if you run up to heal a pet and the dragon ae attacks and your holding your rifle youll take 4000-5000 damage and be incapped no matter how good you are buffed

equip nothing and normally itll be 1000-1500 and you can survive long enough to heal the pet and get back

its saved me tons of times

I did this when I was low on the rifleman tree. I don't anymore (when bleeds are used) so that I'm incapped faster and will, in turn, get up faster.

I used to bleed things like ravenous tortons, shoot them once, stand, peace, unequip rifle, equip armor and could sometimes "ride out the storm", and man did I last longer - but I still had to heal that damage back, an sometimes it was more. (more hits vs you, more HAM bars effected). On the flipside of that argument is that you don't heal at all while incapped...so it all depends on how long until the creature dies.
