I'm currently a Novice Pistoleer and nearly a Novice Sharpshooter. I've always been drawn to Rifleman, but the group I hunt with is made up of only Pistoleers. Since I began as a Marksman, I've noticed that it seems special shots (ie. bodyshot, mindshot) are far more powerful than just regular shooting. This creates a problem with big game hunting using a rifle while with a bunch of pistoleers. While they are knocking down it's health, I can only special shot its Mind with a rifle. Since I'm coming to the point where I will probably have to choose one or the other (pistol or rifle), I'd like it to be rifle. But what can I do as a rifleman to pull my weight when taking down a big creature when everyone else is using a Pistol and targeting health?

I use the best speed powerups I can find. I f you don't mind destroying your rifle you can use overcharge shot.It usually hits the body.

Strafeshot1 (Novice Rifle) is a random pool shot, not too good though, and flurry, flushing, and startleshot is random pool and pretty powerful if you get the second version. If the pistoleers can handle the beast without you shoot for its mind so you can get alot of XP. Once you start getting good you can take out the mind almost faster than the group can take out health. Even cooler when you 1 shot a 2k HAM beastie and the group is chipping its health away.

Once you get one of theAE attacks, flushingshot 2, startleshot 2 or flurryshot2, you should be able to out damage your pistoleer friends even though these attacks hit a random pool. (Most often it is health.)
I highly recommend finding a chef that sells+focus foods, they really do help a lot when you start shooting faster at higher rifleman skill levels.

I just don't use specials, or overchargeshot2. You'd be surprised how much you can help a group of pistoleers with just the default attack. Saves my mind so I can better heal my buddies.

I had a similar dilemma but my group were happy to let me leech (so to speak) until I got Flurry1, at that point I stopped with the headshots and stuck with flurry, using a T21 I can consistently outagro the pistol users (keep a pistol to hand for when this happens, and it will). If you feel a need to play your part though keep using the pistol until you gain the combat xp needed for flurry, then switch to rifle.

Overcharge shot used to drain the heck outta a weapons condition , I know they lowered it but by how much I'm not sure. Just something to keep in mind
